UFC is returning to its APEX facility in Las Vegas on Sunday, November 10th, with the welterweight bout between Neil Magny and Carlos Prates headlining the UFC Vegas 100 event. Magny is coming from a first-round TKO defeat while Prates is on a 10-fight winning streak. Read this sports betting guide to find out my Magny vs Prates prediction and the odds Irish betting sites are offering for this fight.
💯 Magny vs Prates Betting Odds
Seeing as this is the 100th event at the UFC’s Apex, many top Irish bookies are already offering good-looking Neil Magny vs Carlos Prates fight night odds for who will win on November 10th. Below, I have listed some of the best betting sites in Ireland with the odds they are offering for this bout.
Player | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Neil Magny | 4.98 | 4.75 | 4.97 | 5.33 |
Carlos Prates | 1.17 | 1.14 | 1.15 | 1.16 |
From the table above, it’s evident that the UFC Fight Night 247 odds are largely in favour of Carlos Prates. You can back Prates to win at an average price of 1.17 with DirectionBet Sport. This odd implies an 85.5% probability for the Brazilian welterweight to come out on top, with this based partly on his stunning second-round KO win over Li Jingliang in his last outing at UFC 305.
On the other hand, Magny is priced at 4.98 with the same bookie, suggesting that he only has a 20.1% chance of succeeding in this fight. Don’t rule him out completely, though, as he will be entering the Octagon with 29 wins and 0 losses.
My Prediction: Carlos Prates to Win🥊
⚡ Neil Magny Overview
Magny might not be the bookies’ favourite, but he has a pretty impressive record. The Haitian Sensation will be entering the ring with 29 confirmed wins under his belt, with the most notable being his third-round TKO defeat against Mike Marlott. This was a fight where he was at his best as he took out Malott via hard strikes at 4:45 of the third round.
Neil Magny is no doubt clinging to a ranking in the division by a thread, but Pirates seems to be the person with scissors. I’ve seen Magny in a similar situation before, like when he stopped the mighty Mike Malott in the third round earlier in January. He also has the most fights and wins in the history of the welterweight division, currently ranked 15th.
However, 57% of his wins come by decision, so he might not be very good at knockouts. Plus, I’m not convinced that Magny can perform as he used to as he’s got so much mileage which showed in his last fight against Morales. For someone who, in 12 years, has yet to check leg kicks, taking on one of the most violent UFC kickers is near suicide. Magny has been trading wins and losses in his last eight fights. Is this the fight that will get him two losses in a row or is it another win?
⭐ Carlos Prates Overview
Carlo Prates had his UFC debut in February 2024, so this will only be his fourth UFC appearance. The Nightmare will be gracing the Octagon with a good 20-6-0 record during his MMA career. Fifteen of his 20 wins have been achieved by way of knockout while only three have been by submission. Interestingly, he has had eight first-round finishes which is quite a rare feat for an upcoming UFC fighter.
Prates is currently on a 10-fight winning streak and on each of his UFC wins, the Brazilian also earned Performance of the Night honors. I see Prates coming into this fight with the intention of keeping a clean 10-win record and pocketing some extra cash. Like he told UFC.com, he’s looking to “close out the year in fashion, collecting another bonus.” While I see this fight tilting towards Prates’ favour, it’s going to be a tough matchup with the 37-year-old Magny who has shared the ring with the likes of Rafael Dos Anjos, Demian Maia, and Carlos Condit.
Magny is quite hard to knock out, but I see Carlos Prates finishing him off in the third or fourth round, regardless. For one thing, anyone who has watched his past fights knows just how good a kicker Prates is, and this should give him a clear edge over his opponent despite having less leg reach. The Nightmare has attempted 239 significant strikes, landing 137 of them (57%). Averagely, he lands 4.71 significant strikes per minute. He has landed 100% of his strikes from a standing position, so he’s clearly able to deliver strikes from both hands and should be hard to take down. Meanwhile, only 3 of his wins have come by way of submission.
🏆 Neil Magny v Carlos Prates Fight History
The welterweight battle between Magny and Prates will be the first encounter for both welterweight bruisers. The UFC Vegas 100 event was originally expected to be headlined by Moreno vs Albazi, but the fight was rescheduled a week before. Neil Magny went pro in 2010 and currently has the most wins in UFC welterweight history. He also ranks 15th in the UFC welterweight rankings, with 29 wins in his name. The Haitian Sensation has won 14 of his last 22 bouts and five of his last nine.
On his part, Carlos Prates only went pro in 2012, so he’s two years shy of Magny’s experience. He only joined the UFC in 2023 after making an appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series where he knocked out Mitch Ramirez. He followed up that win with several knockouts against Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, and Li Jingliang. Prates has had one of the most impressive starts to a successful UFC career of any Contender Series grad.
💥 Neil Magny vs Carlos Prates: The Long Road to the Match
Now, let’s jump into my Neil Magny vs Carlos Prates betting tips, shall we? Looking at the Magny vs Prates fight card, it doesn’t seem like a fair fight for Magny as he’s taking on someone who has a 10-fight winning streak. Neil Magny will be headlining the UFC Fight Night for the first time, and the fight comes right to his home country.
Magny will be looking to bounce back from his last defeat from Michael Morales. Prates, on the other hand, will be entering the Octagon in flying form having won his last ten fights. This means the highly touted rising contender will be looking to maintain that clean unbeaten record when he goes head-to-head with the Haitian Sensation.
Both fighters will likely go the distance as most of their wins have come by way of knockout, but I don’t see Magny surviving Prates’ violent kicks.
