Women

The four main tennis tournaments of the season are the four Grand Slams, The Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open. This year’s US Open Tennis year begins on August 26th when the first-round matches kick off a bumper fortnight of top-quality tennis. The women’s final will take place on September 7th so over the two weeks of play there will be lots of opportunities for tennis fans in Ireland to have a bet on their favourite player. In this betting guide to the 2024 women’s US Open I will share with you my views on this year’s competition and who I think will win the 2024 US Open Women’s Singles title.

🎾US Open Women's Finals - Betting Preview & Odds

128 of the world’s top players will enter the 2024 US Open women’s singles tournament so there will be several opportunities for fans of tennis betting to have a gamble right up until the Final on September 7th. Below I am going to list the four women I think have the best shot at winning the 2024 US Open women’s singles as well as the betting odds for each one with some of the best betting sites in Ireland.

1️⃣Iga Swiatek

The World No 1 is without doubt capable of adding to her 2022 US Tennis Open this year but she has a few questions to answer if she wants to do it. Firstly, she has quite a tough draw to navigate with the likes of Mirra Andreeva and Liudmilla Samsonova potentially awaiting her during the first week of the tournament. The Pole also failed to win the Olympic Gold Medal she was so hotly fancied for in Paris while she was easily defeated by Sabalenka in Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago.

2️⃣ Aryna Sabalenka

The favourite for the women’s title should have a straightforward enough passage to at least a quarterfinal given her form over the last few weeks. Since coming back from injury Sabalenka has made a semi-final before winning in Cincinnati, beating Jess Pegula in a comfortable final for the big hitting Belarusian. She was defeated by Gauff in last year’s decider, so will hope to go one better, and if she can maintain her form from the last couple of weeks, she could prove very difficult to beat.

3️⃣Coco Gauff

Gauff is the defending champion in Flushing Meadows so will hope a return to the scene of her greatest triumph can kickstart what has been an underwhelming 2024 for the American. Her forehand issues have plagued her throughout the year so of the top 4 players she may be the most susceptible to an early exit with Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk and Emma Navarro all in her section of the draw.

4️⃣ Elena Rybakina

The World No 4 from Kazakhstan is a top hard-court player on her day but her form has tapered off over the last couple of months. She possesses the best serve on the women’s tour and her groundstrokes can take the racquet out of her opponent’s hands when she is in top form. If she gets through to the quarters, she faces the possibility of taking on the likes of Jasmine Paolini or Naomi Osaka.

🏆 US Open Tennis Women's Prediction

Now that we have discussed some of the favourites for the title and the best betting odds on offer lets focus now on who I think will emerge victorious in the 2024 US Tennis Open women’s singles. There are lots of players who will think they have a shot at this year’s title, but I think Iga Swiatek will reposition herself as the best player in the world with victory and add her second Grand Slam of the year after winning the French Open earlier in the year.

My US Open Tennis - Women's Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win.

⭐ US Women's Open Betting Tips

Who Are the Dark Horses?

There are without doubt plenty of players who will consider themselves capable of turning over any of the top players and win the 2024 US Open Tennis. These include Olympic Champion Zheng Qinwen who should be bursting with confidence after triumphing in Paris, Jasmine Paolini who made a Wimbledon Final back in July and Naomi Osaka who is on the comeback trail after some time away from the sport. Of the women I have named I would expect Zheng Qinwen to make the biggest impact at this year’s Open.

Top Tip 1: Zheng Qinwen can cause another upset: The Chinese player has not only just won the Olympic Gold Medal but also has some hard-court pedigree after reaching the Australian Open Final back in January. If she gets through to the quarters against Sabalenka she will definitely fancy her chances of causing another huge upset.

Each Way Betting

With this tournament you can avail of the each-way betting market, meaning you can make a return on your bet if the player you have bet on makes it through to the decider. Here are some useful bits of statistical information to check out before making an each-way bet on the 2024 US Open women’s singles Championship.

  • Of the previous ten champions, all of them managed to make at least one hard court quarter-final in the same season.
  • There have been nine different winners from the last ten tournaments
  • Since 2015 only three winners have been seeded in the Top 4
  • Since 2016 only one winner of the tournament has been over the age of 25.

Top Tip 2: Elena Rybakina can make an impact: The former Wimbledon champion quietly goes about her business on a tennis court, but she undoubtedly has the class to add a second Grand Slam to her resume. She should feel confident enough to make at least a semi-final and from there anything is possible for the Kazakhstani.

Who Would I Not Bet On?

There are always players who struggle at certain events for whatever reason. Therefore, it is important you do some research on whatever player you decide to have a bet on during this year’s tournament.

Top Tip 3: Avoid betting on Gauff: Gauff may be the defending champion at the US Tennis Open but her form this season is patchy at best. The young American has continued to have forehand and serve problems throughout the year and with the prospect of her facing some tough players during the tournament she faces the prospect of an early exit at this year’s event.

📊 Women US Open Tennis Winners

Before placing a bet on the 2024 Us Open Tennis Women’s Singles tournament it is always best to do some research on the players that have performed well at Flushing Meadows down through the years. Tennis is played on different surfaces during the season and some players will perform better on certain surfaces compared to others, so make sure the player you decide to bet on has a pedigree of performing on a hard court which is what the US Tennis Open is played on. You should also check what kind of history your preferred player has in Grand Slams or other big tournaments.

Liam Lacey is a sportswriter from Ireland. Liam has been an avid sports fan for as long as he can remember with a particular interest in the GAA, football and tennis. Mayo football has always been a major part of Liam’s life and he has witnessed and experienced some of the great days, but also the heartbreak and sadness that so many Mayo supporters have felt down the years as the county continues to try to win the Sam Maguire again. Who knows maybe this is finally the year?

Liam is also a huge tennis fan and like so many has looked on with amazement as the trio of Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic took the men’s game to a whole new level for so long. In his downtime, Liam enjoys watching a good movie or TV series. He likes to attempt to try and play football, but he has finally come to the conclusion that he is better off writing and talking about sport than he is trying to make his mark out on the pitch!
