✔️ Australian Open Tennis Betting Tips
Now that I have shown you where you can find the best betting odds for this big tennis event, this Australian Open 2024 betting preview is now going to provide you with some top tips to keep in mind before betting at tennis betting sites.
Who Will Win the Men's Title?
Some sporting events seem to be dominated by one team or one player, and the Australian Open definitely slots into such a category as Novak Djokovic has won it a total of ten times. He picked up his first Australian Open title in 2008, and since then only three other players have lifted the Norman Brookes Cup - Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, and Rafa Nadal. Out of those three, only Wawrinka will be participating this year, but he has little chance of winning, in my opinion.
Top Tip 1: I would put my money on Djokovic to claim his 11th Australian Open title as he is incredibly consistent in Melbourne. He has won 28 matches in a row on Australian soil, with his last defeat coming way back in 2018. Out of the last five Australian Opens, the Serb has won four, only missing out on the 2022 edition due to non-sporting reasons. Last year he won three of the four Grand Slams, and I am quite confident that he will get his 2024 campaign off to a flier. Dachbet Sports are currently offering odds of 2.10.
Who Are the Dark Horses in the Men's Australian Open?
While I think Djokovic will win the title, there are some other top players who will believe that they have what it takes to go on and lift the trophy. This includes Sinner, Alcaraz, and Medvedev. This abundance of talent is what makes competitions such as the Australian Open so entertaining to watch.
Top Tip 2: If you think that the odds for a Djokovic win are too low, then Jannik Sinner is a good outside bet. The Italian's Grand Slam portfolio is not that impressive, but he beat Djokovic twice at the end of 2023. He also played a big role in helping Italy to win the Davis Cup, while he also won the Masters 1000 Trophy. Sinner is fourth seed in Melbourne, which means he will avoid the other three favourites until the semi-final stage. If you think Sinner has what it takes to dethrone Djokovic, then Dachbet Sports have odds of 7.50 for him to win.
Who Will Win the Women's Title?
While the men's edition has been dominated by Novak, the same type of domination has not been happening in the Women's Australian Open. This is highlighted by the fact that there has not been a back-to-back champion since 2012 and 2013. In the time since there has been a total of eight different winners. Aryna Sabalenka, from Kazakhstan, was last year's champion.
Top Tip 3: If you want to put money on the winner of the 2024 Women's Australian Open, then I suggest that you consider betting on Iga Swiatek. The Pole had a fantastic 2023, winning two Grand Slams as well as the WTA Finals, so it is no wonder that she is the bookmakers' favourite. She is consistently good and can stick at it when the going gets tough, no matter what type of court she is playing on. If you want to back Swiatek to win, then Betiton are currently offering odds of 3.55.
Who Are the Dark Horses in the Women's Australian Open?
While I am pretty confident that Swiatek will lift the Australian Open trophy, she will have some stiff competition that she will need to overcome if she is to lift her fifth Grand Slam. Defending champion, Sabalenka will be a threat due to her powerful game, while Rybakina has one of the best serves in women's tennis.
Top Tip 4: If you do not like the odds that are being offered for Swiatek to win, then my dark horse for the Australian Open is neither Sabalenka nor Rybakina, it is Coco Gauff. The young American is getting better and better, and she has already shown just how proficient she can be on hard surfaces. Additionally, she finished 2023 on a high as she picked up victories in Cincinnati and Washington. If you want to back Gauff to win, then LegendPlay are offering odds of 9.40.
Below you can find a summary of my Aus Open tennis tips:
🏆Australian Open Potential Winners
Above I gave you my predictions for both the men's and women's Australian Open, and in this section of my betting guide I am going to provide you with more information regarding the top men and women contenders. This information will include their playing characteristics and how they performed in 2023. All useful data when it comes to betting on Aus Open results.
Novak Djokovic
The Serb has a total of 24 Grand Slams to his name, which is a record that is unlikely ever to be beaten. He has dominated the Australian Open throughout his career, so he will head to Melbourne full of confidence. His success comes from the fact that he has very few weaknesses, while his backhand and his serve are major weapons for him. In 2023 he won seven titles, including three Grand Slams, losing just seven of the 63 matches that he played.
Carlos Alcaraz
The Spaniard is only 20 years of age, but he already has two Grand Slams under his belt. If he keeps his fitness up and plays for the next 15 years or so, there is every chance that he can win 20 Grand Slam titles or more. His main weapon is his forehand as he can use it to perfection from anywhere on the court, while he has one of the best drop shots in the game. In 2023, he won six titles, including his first Wimbledon title. From the 77 matches that he played, he lost just 12.
Jannik Sinner
The Italian is yet to win a Grand Slam title, but I feel that it is only a matter of time before he does. The 22-year-old has already shown us that he is one to look out for, and he causes his opponents plenty of issues because he hits the ball harder than most other players on the tour. He also has a top forehand and an incredible serve, although he needs to improve his accuracy. Towards the end of 2023, he showed his quality by beating Djokovic not once, but twice.
Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek is the standout player in women's tennis, and she has become the World Number One thanks to her aggressive style of play that focuses on attack rather than defence. She hits way more winners than she does unforced errors, which is why she has 17 career titles, including 4 Grand Slams. In the 2023 calendar year, she won six titles, losing just 11 of the 79 matches that she played.
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka will enter the 2024 Australian Open as the reigning champion since she won her first Grand Slam by beating Rybakina in the final last year. In addition to this Grand Slam, she also has 12 other titles under her belt. She can put her success down to her powerful groundstrokes and serves, although she can be inconsistent at times. She is also known for suffering from nerves in big moments, so you might want to remember this when betting. She picked up three titles in 2023 and won 55 of her 69 matches.
Coco Guaff
She is just 19 years old, but she already has a Grand Slam to her name as she won the US Open in 2023. Out of all the players on the tour, she is one of the most athletic, which helps her a lot when she needs to enter defensive mode. If her opponent hits a poor shot, she will use her immense power to punish it. In 2023, she also won the Washington Open and the Cincinnati Open.

💸 Best Australian Open Betting Markets
There are many markets that tennis bettors can test their luck out on, and in this section of my Australian Open 2024 guide, I am going to take a look at some of the most popular.
Australian Open Winner/Each Way
An outright winner bet is an easy one to get to grips with since what you are tasked with doing is putting money on the player that you think will go on to lift the trophy. If you think someone will play well but are not sure whether they will go on and win the title, then you can opt for an each-way bet, where you will receive a smaller payout if they at least make it to the final.
Match Betting
If you do not want to bet on the player that you think will go on and win the title, then you can place a bet on a player to win a particular match. This is a popular bet type due to its simplicity - if your chosen player wins the match, you win your bet, while you lose your stake if they lose.
Handicap Betting
Sometimes, especially in the early rounds of a big tennis event, there will be some huge mismatches where the odds are not worth your while. The odds for the overwhelming favourite will be too low, while the chances of the underdog coming out on top will be slim. In this case, you can opt to give a player a set advantage or disadvantage. For instance, you could give Djokovic a -1.5 set disadvantage, meaning he would need to win the match by two clear sets.
In-Play Betting
There used to be a time when you could not bet on a match once it had started, but this is no longer the case thanks to in-play betting. All of the top bookmakers will have different live tennis betting options available such as:
- Player to win the next game
- Player to win the next point
- Player to get the next break
- The total games in a set
Set Betting
With this type of betting market, what you are tasked with doing is predicting the final score of a match. Doing so is no easy task, which is why the available odds are often quite enticing.
🏅 Australian Open Winners
Before you place a wager on Australian Open betting sites, it is wise to look at previous winners since those who have tasted success before will know what it takes to be successful once again. They have experience and will be less likely to be impacted by any nerves when the going gets tough. Below you can find some of the most recent winners of the men's and women's Australian Open:
Men's Australian Open:

💾 Australian Open 2023 Format
The Australian Open, like most tennis events, is a single-elimination event, meaning that a player is knocked out of the competition if they lose one game. There are 128 participants in both the men's and women's event, so you have plenty of matches to place bets on. The men play the best of five sets, while the women play the best of three sets.
