The big snooker competitions just keep on coming, and the next one on the schedule is the German Masters 2024. This is a ranking tournament that will take place between the 29th of January and the 4th of February at the Tempodrom in Berlin. Below in this betting guide, you will find my views on who I think will go on and win.
🎱 German Masters Betting Preview
The qualifiers for this competition took place from the 18th to the 22nd of December in Sheffield, with a total of 64 players qualifying for this event. The 2023 edition had so much success that the organisers decided to extend it from five to seven days. Additionally, it has reverted to a previously used format, where just a single round of qualifiers is used and the top eight seeds have their games held over at the venue in Berlin.
All matches before the last four will be the first to five frames, while the semi-finals will be the first to six frames and the final will be the first to ten frames. The matches will be played over two sessions.
Like with most snooker events, picking the winner is not an easy feat. Below I will take a closer look at four players who I believe are the favourites for this title. Under each one, you can find the outright odds that three of the best betting sites are offering.
1️⃣ Judd Trump
The Englishman has been one of the form players during this 2023/24 season, winning the English Open, the Wuhan Open, and the Northern Ireland Open. He made it to the World Grand Prix final last week but lost to O'Sullivan. If he had a little bit more luck, then he could have added yet another title to his extensive collection. He is one player that the other competitors will want to avoid because of his natural talent and ruthlessness.

In many competitions though this season, he has been knocked out in the first or second rounds, so he will be wanting to put a bit of extra gloss on his season with a win in Germany. Even when he is not playing at the top of his game, his opponents still know that he is never to be taken lightly.
3️⃣ Shaun Murphy
Before the 2022/23 season, Shaun Murphy had won only two competitions in six years, which is definitely too few for a player who has his qualities on a snooker table. Since then, he has been playing some of the best snooker of his life and has picked up three titles in two seasons. He won the Championship League at the start of this season and will want to get his name on this trophy for the first time. His opponents will be wary of leaving long shots as he is one of the best long potters in the sport.
4️⃣ Mark Selby
Mark Selby has only made it to one final in the 2023/24 season, which is why I am quite surprised by the odds that some of the top bookmakers are offering for him to go on and win the title. However, although I think that his odds should be longer, I do think that he is a contender. The Jester from Leicester is one of those players who can be out of form and then just turn it on out of nowhere. He has one of the best safety games in the sport, so nobody will relish playing against him.

When it comes to the winner of this ranking event, who do I think it will be? Well, I always say to base your bets on current form, so for me, it has got to be Trump. If Ronnie O'Sullivan was playing, my money probably would have been on the Rocket. Trump put in some top performances in the recent World Grand Prix and will be disappointed to have lost in the final.
When he has been getting in among the balls lately, he has, more often than not, gone on to put on a frame-winning break.

He is playing some of the best snooker that he has played in a long while, and will still be ruing the fact that he threw away his lead against O'Sullivan in the final of the Masters. He will be eager to make amends and knows what it takes to win this competition.
Who Will Underperform?
Some players have all the talent in the world, but either struggle when the pressure is on or are just completely out of form when a competition rolls around. One player who seems to struggle with the pressure is Lisowski, while the likes of Higgins, and Williams seem out of form.
Top Tip 3: I really want Lisowski to win a tournament one day, but until he does and manages to get over his mental hurdle, I would not recommend that you bet on him. I think once his first title is in the bag, he will go on to win more titles.

Another market that snooker bettors can put money on is the player who will go on and hit the highest break in the tournament. Due to how hard it is to get such a bet correct, there will usually be some enticing odds available. There is extra money for hitting the highest break, which gives players an extra incentive.
Top Tip 4: When it comes down to the highest break, a player to think about putting your money on is Trump. He has been playing some top snooker recently, and I can see him making some high breaks at the competition.
