Semi-Finals Predictions

Graeme Dott and David Gilbert

Graeme Dott has been on incredible form this season, most recently qualifying for the winners’ group in the Championship League in December 2021. In the current tournament, Dott has had some close calls with two matches against Mark Davis and Zhou Yuelong hanging on to a deciding tie-breaker frame. Dott’s match against Jordan Brown was fairly strong getting a comfortable 4-0 lead.

David Gilbert has had a similar experience to Dott in this tournament, with again two matches hanging in the balance of a deciding frame against Liam Highfield and Barry Hawkings. Gilbert’s match against Pang Junxu was fairly even, and Gilbert managed to get four breaks over 50, eventually winning the match 5-3.

Dott and Gilbert have a history spanning back to 2016 where they first played in the Championship League - Group 5. In their seven match history, Dott has come out on top winning five of them. Currently, Gilbert has a world ranking of 19 compared to Dott’s ranking of 47. However, Dott has two ranking titles to his name whereas Gilbert only has one.

This will certainly be an interesting match to follow between two great players. Ultimately, we will back Dott to reach the final.

Our match prediction: Graeme Dott to win.

Ronnie O’Sullivan and Anthony McGill

As the world’s current second best player, Ronnie O’Sullivan is the last player in the top ten to remain in the competition. Despite his close match against Zhang Anda where he was close to crashing out of the tournament, O’Sullivan has had a relatively easy experience with a score of 5-1 against Wu Yize and 5-2 against Ashley Hugill. The six-time world champion doesn’t look like he’s slowing down already adding four century breaks to his total of 1,137 with also the highest run of 141 in the tournament so far. O’Sullivan is certainly a formidable player, so we expect him to do very well in the remainder of the tournament.

With a current world ranking of 15, Anthony McGill, has had a fairly good run in the 2022 European Masters so far. McGill had a fantastic start with a whitewash against Hossein Vafaei and continued with a 5-1 win against Mitchell Mann and a 5-3 win against Kurt Maflin.

‘The Glaswegian Gladiator’ and ‘The Rocket’ O’Sullivan have a seven match history and McGill has only managed to beat O’Sullivan once in the World Championship in 2021. If O’Sullivan has his head in the game, we think he will be able to get another win under his belt and move on into the final.

Our match prediction: Ronnie O’Sullivan to win.
