The Championship League Snooker Betting Guide – What to know to Bet On
The Championship League may not have the same prestige as the likes of the World Championship, the Triple Crown events, or the Masters, but this ranking event is still one of the more fascinating events on the circuit. It was originally a qualifier for Premier League Snooker, but that came to an end in 2012, and it is now a standalone event where money is earned from winning individual frames. If you want to do snooker betting on this event, you can find out about the top betting sites below.

✔️ Championship League Snooker Betting Tips 2023
Many Irish punters enjoy betting on snooker because there are many different markets that they can put their hard-earned money on. In this section of my Championship League Snooker betting guide, I shall take a look at some very popular markets and also provide some very useful betting tips.
Match Winner
This is a market that you will find for every sport that you can wager on, and what you have to do is try to predict the player that will win the match. In many sports, you will have the option of putting your money on a draw, but you usually cannot do this in snooker since draws do not exist as the matches are the best out of a particular number of frames. However, the Championship league is an exception to this as draws can happen in the group stage.
Top Tip 1: The higher-ranked players will usually defeat the lower-ranked players, but what makes snooker so exciting is that upsets are not rare - this is particularly the case in events where the matches do not have a large number of frames. Do not bet on someone to win based solely off their ranking, bet on them to win based off of their form.
Accumulator or Combination Betting
Accumulators have become really popular among Irish punters because they give them the chance to win large monetary amounts without having to put down a large stake. This is because all of the odds for the different selections that you choose will be multiplied together to give you your combined odds total. For instance, if you bet on four players to win with odds of 2.50, 1.70, 1.90, and 2.20, your overall odds will be 17.77. However, the major downside to accumulator betting is that all of your predictions have to be correct for you to land a win.
Top Tip 2: I know that it is enticing to add plenty of selections to your accumulator to increase your odds, but this is not something that I would suggest you do as this will also increase your chances of losing your bet. Do not get into a habit of making accys, and just bet on the markets that you know well.
The Winner of the Next Frame
If you do not feel like betting on the winner of a game, then you can think about placing a wager on the player that you believe will win the following frame. With this type of market, all that your selected player needs to do is go on and win the next frame. If they lose all of the other frames in the match, it matters little to you, so long as they won the frame that you predicted they would.
Top Tip 3: When it comes to next frame betting, it is important to learn to pick your moment. For instance, if you place a wager on someone who has won three frames in a row, then their odds to win the next one will be low. You need to try and time your wager so that you get a nice ratio of odds and potential profit
Match Handicap
Handicap betting is useful when there is a perceived mismatch in quality between two players. In this type of scenario, the odds that are on offer for the favourite will be really low, meaning that you would have to place a huge stake in order to make any decent amount of profit. On the other hand, putting your money on the underdog is probably a certain way to lose your hard-earned money. So, to level things out, you can give a frame advantage or disadvantage to one player to increase the odds of the favourite or increase the chances of the underdog being victorious.
Top Tip 4: Odds for the world's best players such as Mark Allen, Ronnie O' Sullivan, Judd Trump, and Neil Robertson will be low at the start of the competition as they will be taking on players of perceived lower quality. So, this is when you should consider doing some handicap betting
Highest Break
The best snooker betting bookmakers will let you bet on who you think will manage to score the highest break in a match or in the tournament. The odds available for the latter will obviously be higher since it is much harder to predict. What is great about this market is that your selected player does not even need to win the match or competition, just as long as nobody betters their break score.
Top Tip 5: Do a lot of research as this can help you find out those players that are known to make regular high breaks - Trump, Selby, O'Sullivan, Higgins, and Allen are some of the sport's best break builders
Outright Betting (Tournament Winner)
With the outright betting market, what you are tasked with doing is finding the player that will go on and win the whole event.
Top Tip 6: Look at your selected player's potential route to the final as this will give you an idea as to whether they might have to face someone who they usually struggle to beat. Also, do your best to make your outright bets as early as you can since they will shorten with each passing round

Due to the popularity that snooker has gained, Irish snooker betting fans now have many choices when it comes to selecting a bookie that they can sign up with to place bets on the Championship League. However, not all bookmakers are created equally, and below are five of the very best:

Irish people are extremely patriotic, so they will be glad to find out that one of the best sports betting sites for placing wagers on the Championship League is BoyleSports, a site based in Ireland. They are known for offering their punters top odds for all the sports that they have markets for, while they do not shy away when it comes to their live snooker offerings.
If you opt to open an account with BoyleSports, then once you have placed a qualifying bet of just €10, you will receive a €30 euro free bet as well as €10 worth of bonus money that you can use on their online casino games. TonyBet
Market variety is something that is really important since this is what ensures that your betting experience remains an entertaining one. With regard to market variation, you will find it hard to come across a sportsbook that has what it takes to compete with the likes of TonyBet. Luckster
Luckster is another Irish-based sports betting site, and while it is not up there yet with the likes of BoyleSports, they are definitely not too far behind. They came into being in 2022, but please do not let their relative inexperience put you off for registering with them. With regard to snooker betting, you will not be disappointed by their odds and markets on offer.
However, how they stand out in a saturated market is by offering quality bonuses and promos. Your first deposit will be 100% matched up to €100, while regular punters can make use of winning boosts of up 77% as well as odds boosts.
Take a look at our Luckster review to find out even more.
William Hill
Many Irish punters know William Hill as being a great place to go to bet on racing, but what I can tell you is that it is also an awesome place to go to bet on snooker. There are snooker markets at William Hill that I have not seen offered elsewhere such as betting on the player who will pot the first red or who will win a session. Additionally, you will not be disappointed by their odds.
If you opt to open an account with William Hill, then there are two free bets up for grabs that are worth a total of €15 each. You can use this to try and get your snooker betting off to a flier.
Our William Hill review will tell you anything else that you need to know.
N.B The bonuses that I mentioned above all come with various T&Cs, so please ensure that you give them a read before you claim any bonus. Also, you need to remember to always gamble responsibly.

🏆Winners of Championship League Snooker
Barry Hearn introduced this event in 2008 as a qualifying competition for the Premier League Snooker, and this first edition, which was not a ranking event, was won by Joe Perry, who beat Mark Selby 3-1 in the final. In 2012, the Premier League Snooker was discarded, so this became a standalone tournament, with a ranking equivalent being introduced in 2020.
The format for the ranking and non-ranking event is not the same, but I will focus on the former since it is the bigger competitions. There are 32 groups of 4 players in stage one, with the 32 group winners making it through to stage two, where there are eight groups of four. The eight winners then qualify for stage three, where the two group winners from two groups of four contest the final.
Below are the four previous winners of this event:
Year | Winner | Runner-Up | Score | Location |
---|---|---|---|---|
2020 | Kyren Wilson | Judd Trump | 3-1 | Milton Keynes |
2021 | David Gilbert | Mark Allen | 3-1 | Leicester |
2022 | Luca Brecel | Lu Ning | 3-1 | Leicester |
2023 | Shaun Murphy | Mark Williams | 3-0 | Leicester |
