Outright prediction of our Six Nations betting series.
The Guinness Six Nations 2023 is almost here, and there is a lot of speculation as to whom the outright winner may be. Last year's competition has left a lot of fans second-guessing their suspected champion for this year. There is hot debate as to whether France will retain their crown; favourites and current world number-ones, Ireland will spoil the party; or even outsiders like England and Wales will cause an upset, thanks to big changes in their set-ups. There is a lot that fans and pundits alike can analyse.
Below, I give you my prediction and a few Six Nations betting tips for those interested in checking out all of the sports betting action.

📖 Team Overviews and Predictions to Win
🌹 England Preview and Chances of Winning the 2023 Six Nations
The Red Rose will be looking to stir crowds into a frenzy with another crack at the Six Nations title. Can this year's third favourites challenge for glory or will fans of England rugby be silenced for another year?
💼 England's Management Team
Eddie Jones, love him or hate him, has recently been sacked from England after their worst performances on the field since 2008. England spent 2023 in turmoil, leading to a number of players explicitly stating in the press their displeasure over Jones's style of coaching. Indeed, the players, support, and coaching staff Eddie has burned through has been like a small child going through a bag of sweets. Enter Steve Borthwick.
Borthwick has taken over the reigns since Jones's departure, surrounding himself with experienced and quality coaches. In just over a month, he has put forward a new England mantra of pace and agility and pursued a rebuild of the England set-up. He has, however, tempered expectations and warned England fans not to expect any overnight fixes, so perhaps the Six Nations 2023 will not be the tournament that the Men in White win the Six Nations outright.

✔️ England's Recent Form
2022 was not a great year for England rugby. Six games unbeaten in over twice that number of games was certainly nothing to brag about. Even with a new Head Coach in the bag, recent form suggests that Borthwick will have an uphill struggle. Personally, I think it's going to be a few long games before there is any improvement, so from how England have played previously, the Six Nations 2023 may as well already be forgotten.

🐓 France Preview and Chances of Winning the 2023 Six Nations
France looked to be the bookies' favourites at the end of last year. All that seems to have changed now, with Ireland on top, but that's not to say that fans and pundits alike will be writing off Les Bleus that quickly. The French have a lot up their sleeves, ready for this year's Six Nations Championship. Let's take a look at their set-up.
💼 France's Management Team
When looking at a team's management structure, a lot of rugby fans may gloss past all but the big boss, but the French are lucky to have two world greats leading the charge: Head Coach, Fabien Galthié and Defence Coach, Shaun Edwards. Both complement each other and are seen as the best coaching team in the world today - one of the reasons they have transformed France into world-beaters as reflected by the Six Nations odds. In fact, when the top job at England became available, many countries, including France, were quick to re-sign their coaches in an effort to avoid them being poached for this position. On that note, that should mean we see great things from the French side for years to come.

✔️ France's Recent Form
What a year 2022 was for France! Les Bleus stormed to a perfect ten across ten matches, putting them second in the world in the rankings. Even on form alone, France look strong to do the double and claim the Six Nations for a second year in a row. Will they make it? I think they have potential, but I have my eyes on somebody else grabbing the prize.

☘️ Ireland Preview and Chances of Winning the 2023 Six Nations
Now we move on to the Six Nations outright betting favourites, Ireland. It's understandable that the current world number ones would be odds on to take home the silverware, but do I think the Irish are up to the task? I think there are a lot of positive signs for an impending title grab from the Men in Green. Let's see why.
💼 Ireland's Management Team
Heading up the Irish team is Andy Farrell. The Englishman is a dual-code international who has also coached at Saracens, Munster, England, and the British and Irish Lions. Farrell arguably initially prospered from the set-up he inherited from his predecessor, Joe Scmidt, but he has since made the role his own - the results serving as one massive tick in the box for his coaching career. Indeed, he certainly seems to be getting the praise he deserves, with a nomination or Coach of the Year in 2022 serving as an endorsement of his credentials.

✔️ Ireland's Recent Form
The Irish did pick up a loss against France in last year's Six Nations, but that was about all of the heartbreak for the fans in 2022 given Ireland's fantastic run in the rest of the year. After a historic summer tour in New Zealand and an Autumn Nations Series that kept them first in the world rankings, I can envision Ireland continuing their cracking run of form in this year's Six Nations becoming the outright winner. As such, I can also see there being quite the party in Dublin at the end of the tournament.

🐺 Italy Preview and Chances of Winning the 2023 Six Nations
The Six Nations' sixth man is back. We've all seen the previous competitions, and we've all seen what hope the bookies' odds are giving the Italians of claiming their first ever title win. Rugby is always full of surprises, though, so let's look if this is the year that the world may get a shock.
💼 Italy's Management Team
Kieran Crowley joined Italy as Head Coach back in May 2021, and he has had a seismic effect on the national team's game since taking over the top job. Italy have had their ups and downs during Crowley's tenure, but ending their 36-game losing streak in the Six Nations after sneaking past Wales on the scoreboard in the final match of last year's competition and having clawed two wins from three matches in the Autumn Nations Series has meant a resurgence of belief in Italian rugby. Maybe Crowley's men may not be world-beaters at this stage, but the Head Coach has certainly inspired a passion for rugby in Italy unlike anything over the last decade or more.

✔️ Italy's Recent Form
Italy managed five wins in 2022 - their best work since 2007. Will that be enough to keep them afloat in the 2023 Six Nations? Given that they proved that they were at least able to beat some of the top ten teams in the world, you may think Italy have a prayer in this competition. Sadly, given some of the drubbings they received in between their good fortune, I think fans may be waiting a while before we see the Europeans winning anything but the wooden spoon.

🦄 Scotland Preview and Chances of Winning the 2023 Six Nations
Scotland are one of those teams that are world class on their day. The problem is that those days come inconsistently so that the side tend to struggle in the long-term against top-ten teams. Will the Six Nations 2023 give the Scottish an opportunity to string together a better run of matches? Certainly. I don't see their potential converting into game wins, however. Let's look at why that may be the case.
💼 Scotland's Management Team
Leading Scotland is Gregor Townsend MBE, a former player turned Head Coach. He had previously been the Assistant Coach of the side from 2009 to 2012 before taking his turn in the spotlight in recent years. Townsend has surely managed to fire up the Scottish team in the Calcutta Cup over the last five tests, with Scotland picking up three wins and a draw from five matches. The only problem has been converting such passion for playing the Old Enemy into the other big tests, as we shall see shortly. The Scot is feeling a lot of pressure to produce a top-three finish in the Six Nations 2023 and to build a good run of form, going into the Rugby World Cup. If the results don't come (and the circulating rumours are to be believed), he may be off to coach the Leicester Tigers at the end of the year.

✔️ Scotland's Recent Form
Like their English counterparts, there's not a lot of room for bragging when it comes to Scotland's recent rugby performances. Five wins from 12 last year left a sour taste in the mouth, and questions have been asked about whether Scotland will struggle in the future against developing teams like Argentina - to whom they lost their summer series, 2-1. With all of this in mind, I can't see Scotland developing enough momentum in the Six Nations 2023 to challenge the best teams in Europe, so I think Scottish fans may be watching the tournament through their fingers.

🐉 Wales Preview and Chances of Winning the 2023 Six Nations
Any Welshman will happily tell you about the long and proud history of Wales rugby. Have the Men in Red still got the right ingredients to create the sort of triumph they experienced in their glory days, however? That may be a question with a bitter answer. Let's break down the core elements of the Welsh set-up.
💼 Wales's Management Team
Wales have also made big changes in the managerial department, sacking former Head Coach Wayne Pivac and re-signing his predecessor, Warren Gatland. Gatland previously had notable success with the Welsh national team, winning four Six Nations championships, before returning to his native New Zealand in 2020 to coach the Chiefs - a tenure which, by large contrast, led to a record-breaking losing streak in the Super Rugby. Welsh rugby fans will be expecting a lot from their prodigal Head Coach, but will he be able to deliver the goods? I suspect that a lack of time to prepare will be the biggest obstacle to Six Nations glory for Wales.

✔️ Wales's Recent Form
Welsh fans expected a roar of life from 2022, but instead, all they got was a sigh of despair. Out of 13 games, Wales only knocked up four wins, leaving a lot of questions unanswered about what they may achieve in the Six Nations 2023 and the Rugby World Cup. Personally, I think Wales's recent performances highlight a lack of desire that will hold them back again in this year's Six Nations. Perhaps some think that their aforementioned change in leadership will create enough of a spark to re-ignite the Welsh dragon, but I don't see that happening quite this soon.

🕵️ My Prediction for the Outright Winner of the Six Nations 2023
The betting sites have down Ireland to win the Six Nations 2023. I am inclined to believe the same. Not only that, I think they will go all of the way and win the Triple Crown and the Grand Slam. Ireland have a lot of weapons in their rugby arsenal, from fantastic leadership to world-class players, and with the advantage of playing their toughest matches at home, this is certainly their competition to lose. If the Men in Green bring the sort of composure and determination that they did in 2022, I can see only France being a minor hindrance on the path to the Six Nations title.
Prediction for the Six Nations outright winner? Ireland to win.
💶 Six Nations Outright Winner Betting Tips
Betting on an outright winner of the Six Nations always gives you deliciously longer odds than any kind of match betting. The obvious drawback is that the risk factor goes up dramatically; correctly guessing rough results for 15 games is a lot harder than guessing just the one match winner - especially without being able to look at current form in the competition, as the new rugby year begins. On that basis, I would argue that looking at match betting for individual games may give you better odds for the Six Nations - very much depending on what the bookies are willing to offer.
There is one case, however, in which I could see betting on the Six Nations outright winner as worthwhile, and that's if you only want to place one bet across the entire competition - remember that if you set your own betting limit, stick to it! In that case, my recommendation would be Ireland to win outright at 2.35 odds. If you fancy mixing things up, my thoughts are that Ireland are not only going to win the tournament but will also claim the Triple Crown and Grand Slam titles. You can place wagers on both of these outcomes at odds of 2.31 for Ireland to win the Triple Crown and odds of 3.99 for Ireland to win the Grand Slam.
