On Saturday, 18th May, Dublin will entertain Kilkenny at Parnell Park in round four of the 2024 Leinster Hurling Championship. These two teams top the provincial table after three rounds of fixtures, although ‘The Dubs’ are a point clear of Kilkenny in the race to qualify for the Leinster final. Despite this and the fact that both Dublin and the ‘The Cats’ are undefeated so far in their Leinster SHC campaigns, Kilkenny are favourites among Ireland’s best betting sites having reached the All-Ireland final in 2023. But which side do I think will prevail in the Irish capital this weekend?

🏆 Dublin vs Kilkenny Leinster Championship Prediction

Not only did injury time goals by Danny Sutcliffe and Cian O’Sullivan earn a dramatic draw for the Dubs against Wexford during the first round of provincial fixtures, but these strikes also appeared to light a fire under Micheál Donoghue’s charges. They certainly appeared more focused when defeating Carlow by five points at Dr Cullen Park on April 27th, before Antrim were thrashed in Dublin last time out.

The Dubs prevailed by 20 points at Parnell Park, turning on the afterburners in the final 30 minutes with superb goals from Brian Hayes and the excellent Donal Burke. Paul Crummey also found the net in the opening minute for Dublin, and there’s no doubt that the team are hitting peak form ahead of the visit of Kilkenny.

Conversely, Kilkenny’s form has spluttered in recent weeks, following consecutive draws at Galway and Callow. These results followed the Cat’s five goal and 32-point thrashing of a beleaguered Antrim side during round one, with veteran TJ Reid (1-5) and the excellent Owen Wall (2-2) kickstarting Kilkenny’s bid to win a fifth successive Leinster SHC title.

The price of a Dublin win has certainly shortened after the last two gameweeks, and Donoghue’s men may never have a better chance of defeating their rivals. However, the Dubs haven’t defeated Kilkenny provincially since 2013, when they prevailed in a Leinster semi-final replay on their way to the title. This equates to an eight-match winless run, and I can see Kilkenny triumphing again in what’s sure to be a tense and hard-fought encounter.

My Prediction: 🏆Kilkenny to win!

💯 Dublin vs Kilkenny Leinster Hurling Odds

Whichever team you think will prevail, you can access a diverse range of hurling betting markets ahead of the Leinster clash between Dublin and Kilkenny. In addition to picking the winner of this particular game, you can bet on the eventual winning margin at the end of 70 minutes or apply a points handicap to your chosen team. These markets are likely to be particularly popular in this instance, especially given Kilkenny’s recent provincial dominance and head-to-head record against the Dubs.

Dublin vs Kilkenny: Match Winner

Kilkenny are the clear favourites to defeat Dublin this weekend, with their average odds of 1.33 implying a 75.18% probability of an away win. Conversely, you can back Dublin to snap their eight-game losing streak against the Cats at a price of around 4.50 at the time of writing. This implies just a 22.22% probability of a home victory at Parnell Park, despite the recent form of both competing sides. The draw is priced at 11.00, so there’s a 9.09% chance of the match ending tied after 70 minutes and both teams claiming a point.

✔️ Dublin vs Kilkenny - Betting Tips

dublin-v-kilkenny-logo

While the pre-game odds reflect Kilkenny’s dominance over the Dubs in recent years, they arguably don’t take into account both teams’ form since the first round of provincial fixtures in 2024. This is particularly true when it comes to the win market, but the good news is that there are plenty of wager types and bet combinations that enable you to create superior value when betting on Dublin vs Kilkenny. So, here are some tips and insights to help you make the most of your starting bankroll and available free bets.

  • : Tip 1: Back Kilkenny to Win by Between 1 and 3 Points: Kilkenny have won their previous six provincial fixtures against Dublin by a combined margin of 36 points, at an average rate of six per game. However, this sequence included a thumping 13-point win for the Cats at Parnell Park in 2022, with matches between these two sides otherwise typically tense and hard fought. In fact, Kilkenny have won by two points or less twice since 2018, and their form has spluttered of late while Dublin appear to have peaked. So, get on Kilkenny to win by between 1 and 3 points at the enhanced price of 5.00 with 1Bet Sports.
  • Tip 2: Bet on the Half-Time/Full-Time Market: The half-time/full-time market also offers value ahead of the clash between Dublin and Kilkenny. Although Dublin have reserved their most devastating form this season for the second half of matches, they'll be in confident mood when Kilkenny roll into town and are likely to start with high intensity. This may force the Cats to weather this storm early on before taking control later in the game, as they did during their 32-point thrashing of Antrim in gameweek one. So, consider backing Dublin/Kilkenny in the half-time/full-time market this weekend at the competitive price of 4.50 with PalmSlots Sports.
  • Tip 3: Back Kilkenny to Win Outright: While Kilkenny are prohibitively priced to defeat Dublin, it's hard to look past their record of eight consecutive wins against their rivals. They also boast superior individual quality in the form of players like centre forward TJ Reid, who was the All-Ireland SHC top scorer in 2019 and 2020, and young Owen Wall. They've also lost just one of their previous 10 Leinster matches since a four point reversal against Wexford in May 2022. You can get on Kilkenny to win outright this weekend at a price of 1.33 with LegendPlay Sports.

⚽ Dublin Update

Dublin’s hurlers are unbeaten in four senior matches in all competitions, since Galway defeated them by eight points on March 10th at the Pearse Stadium in the Allianz Hurling Division 1. The Dubs subsequently completed their 2024 National League campaign with a 13 point thumping of Westmeath, eventually placing fourth in the Division 1 Group B table. This preceded their draw at Wexford in round one of the Leinster SFC, before victories Carlow and Antrim sent them soaring to the top of the provincial table. Right corner forward Donal Burke has scored one goal and 27 points in his three Leinster appearances so far in 2024, including 1-11 in the 20 point demolition of Antrim.

Galway 1-23 Dublin 1-15 10.03.24 Allianz Hurling League Roinn 1

The return of Donal Burke has come at the best possible time for Dublin, with the forward having been sidelined for more than six months after his hamstring tore from the bone in the 2023 All-Ireland quarterfinal defeat to Clare. This means that the Dubs will largely be at full strength for the hotly anticipated visit of Kilkenny.

⚽ Kilkenny Update

Despite being heavy betting favourites to defeat Dublin, Kilkenny have only won one of their previous four matches in all competitions. This sequence includes the team’s recent draws at Carlow and Galway in the Leinster SFC, while Allianz Division 1 rivals Clare defeated the Cats by two points at the FBD Semple Stadium Thurles in the National League final on April 6th. Clare also beat Kilkenny by three points during the regular season on March 10th, so the Cats have showcased largely inconsistent form through 2024 so far. Eion Cody, who contributed three goals and a further 32 points during Kilkenny’s league campaign, may also miss out as he continues to struggle with an ankle injury.

Cody suffered his injury in the round one victory over Antrim at UPMC Nowlan Park, and the clash with Dublin is expected to come too soon for the 2023 All-Star. Adrian Mullen (groin injury) is also a doubt for the trip to the capital, although Eoin Murphy may be fit again after recovering from a head injury.
