Derry and Ulster hurling champions Slaughtneil take on Munster champions Sarsfields in the first of this year’s All Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship Semi-Finals on Sunday December 15th at St Conleth's Park in Newbridge at 13:30 GMT. Slaughtneil will bid to make history on Sunday as they try and become the first Derry team to make an All-Ireland club hurling Final. Sarsfields, for their part, also have the chance to make their first ever Final on Sunday, as well as becoming the first Cork side to reach the decider since Newtownshandrum lost to Portumna in 2006.
In this prediction preview, we will provide you with everything you need to know ahead of the big game. From the latest betting odds, to useful betting tips, we have you covered. We will also give you the latest team news, form guides, as well as our very own Sarsfields vs Slaughtneil prediction ahead of the first of this season’s All-Ireland club Semi-Finals.
🏆Sarsfields vs Slaughtneil Prediction
To kick off our match preview, Sarsfields may have only picked up their first Munster Club Hurling Championship a couple of weeks ago but given the pedigree of opposition they have faced and beaten already this year; they are justifiably favourites to make it to their very first All-Ireland Final. The manner of their win against Ballygunner in the Munster Final was very impressive, especially when you consider the 17-point thrashing Ballygunner had given them during last year’s Munster Championship.
Slaughtneil have also never reached the All-Ireland Final and will become the first Derry team to make the decider if they can make it past the Cork side on Sunday. They have fine hurlers in the likes of Derry Gaelic Football stars Shane McGuigan and Brendan Rodgers, while Jack Cassidy and Cormac O’ Doherty have also stepped up when needed so far this year.
The Derry Champions are likely to give a great account of themselves as they bid to reach the Final, but I think Sars, buoyed by their Munster success, can just about make it into the All-Ireland against either Loughrea or Na Fianna after a hard-fought battle with Slaughtneil.
OUR PREDICTION: 🏆SARSFIELDS to win!

💡Sarsfields vs Slaughtneil Betting Tips
This All-Ireland Semi-Final promises to be an exciting game between two sides both chasing their first ever appearance in an All-Ireland Club Hurling Final. Sarsfields are the favourites to make it past their Derry rivals, but I am expecting a close game between the two sides in Newbridge on Sunday.
To help with your betting ahead of the match, below we have listed 3 Sarsfields vs Slaughtneil betting tips that might prove useful if you are having a bet on the game. Before having a bet on the match however be sure to check out our sportsbooks review pages which will provide information on any of the betting sites listed in this Sarsfields vs Slaughtneil prediction.
- Tip 1: Total Match Goals Under 2.5: Both sides have only conceded 4 goals each in their last five games and have only conceded more than one goal on one occasion in their last five games also. Given that solidity at the back that both sides can produce, it might be wise to have a look at the under 2.5 total goals market for the match on Sunday. If you agree, you can find a price of 1.80 with BoyleSports on the match producing less than 2.5 goals when Sarsfields take on Slaughtneil.
- Tip 2: Sarsfields to score under a total of 23.5 points: The Cork side have only scored more than 23.5 points once in their last five matches on their way to this All-Ireland Semi-Final. That was against Feakle in the Munster semi-final when they hit 25 points. Currently you can find a price of 1.75 with DirectionBet for Sars to hit under 23.5 points against Slaughtneil on Sunday.
- Tip 3: Sarsfields to win by 1-3 points: As I have said I expect Sunday’s game to be a fiercely contested battle between two good teams. I would not expect there to be much between them at the end of the hour’s play and it wouldn’t be crazy to even anticipate extra time between these two sides. With that in mind, I like the look of the Sars to win by 1-3 points market, that sportsbooks are offering punters. You can currently find a price of 4.00 with BoyleSports if you agree that The Cork team will win by 1-3 points on Sunday.
Sarsfields Recent Form
Sarsfields may have lost the Cork County Final to Divisional side Imokilly, but such are the rules about Divisional sides progressing into Munster, Sarsfields were advanced into the Munster Championship. The Cork side found form in their Semi-Final win over Feakle, before surprising everyone in Ireland bar themselves it seems, when they produced a brilliant display to win their first ever Munster Club Championship win by beating four times defending champions Ballygunner in the Final.

Slaughtneil Recent Form
The Derry champions took part in one of the hurling matches of the year when they defeated Antrim champions Cushendall in the Ulster Semi-Final back in October. The match finished 1-36 – 3-26 to the Derry side after Extra Time with Slaughtneil proving too strong in the end. They then just about avoided an upset when they came back from eight points down at one point against Portaferry to beat the Down champions on a scoreline of 2-19 – 1-19, which earned them their fifth Provincial Championship.

👕 Sarsfields vs Slaughtneil Predicted Lineups
Listed below are the starting lineups both sides used in their respective Provincial Finals. For Sarsfields the key person is Shane O’ Regan. He entered the fray after 45 minutes and hit 2-03. Whether he starts the Semi-Final remains to be seen.
Slaughtneil had to put in a significant effort in the last quarter against Portaferry in their Ulster win, but led by the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Shane McGuigan and Jack Cassidy the Derry side managed to get over the line by a goal. If Sarsfields can keep a lid on those three they may have one foot in the All-Ireland Final.
