📋 All-Ireland Hurling Championship Outright Betting Tips

Even a cursory glance at the 2023 All Ireland Hurling Championship final betting odds reveals that defending champions Limerick are the overwhelming favourites to retain their crown this time around.

The Munster County has already been the focal point of All Ireland Hurling Championship outright betting this year, and this trend shows no sign of abating now that the tournament has commenced.

But how exactly can you create value when betting on the 2023 All Ireland Hurling Championships? Regardless of your intended All Ireland Hurling Championship final bets, here are some expert wagering tips to help you make the most of your bankroll.

📌 Bet Decisively and Bet Early

The 2023 All Ireland Hurling Championships got underway on April 22nd, with a single round of fixtures having been completed in the Leinster and Munster provinces. The winners of the Joe McDonagh Cup have also yet to be determined, with this particular final scheduled to take place on May 27th or 28th at Croke Park.

So, the championship remains in its relative infancy, and the best way to identify or create value in outright betting is to wager as quickly and decisively as possible.

After all, ante post outright prices tend to be at their longest when they’re first published, and before bookmakers begin to take bets. At this stage, the outright prices for the favourites tend to drift and shorten considerably, and the All Ireland Hurling Championship outright winner odds are no exception to this rule.

So, your ability to compare the form and analyse the outright betting market proactively is key here, as you look to place your ante post wagers as early as possible when backing the initial favourites. Conversely, you may want to delay placing your bets if you intend to back outsiders, as their prices may lengthen if bookies don’t receive an influx of wagers on them to win!

📌 Study Form and Recent Performance

While it’s easy to be swayed by the fact that defending champions Limerick are odds-on to win the 2023 iteration of the tournament, it’s crucial that you analyse form and key datasets to ensure that you place an informed and insightful outright bet.

Form and recent performance are particularly important, both in provincial championships and All Ireland matches. For example, Limerick have won four consecutive Munster Championships and a hattrick of All Ireland crowns since 2020, with last years’ final win over Kilkenny highlighting the dominance that the current side has over its rivals.

Further analysis shows that fellow 2023 contenders Kilkenny and Galway have also reached recent All Ireland Hurling finals, with these teams likely to be competitive this year and capable of offering value as outright wagers.

I’d also recommend that you check out each team’s injury and transfer news before making wagers. After all, Limerick have been buoyed by the return of Cian Lynch and Peter Casey to the fold, while they’ve also added starlet Shane O’Brien to their squad for 2023 and strengthened an already powerful side further.

📌 Split Your Stake Between Different Outcomes

I’d also recommend that you strive to make the most of your starting bankroll when betting on the 2023 All Ireland Hurling Championship, ideally by splitting this between a number of different outcomes.

For example, while you may be inclined to back Limerick to win in 2023, you should also consider placing a nominal stake amount on Galway, Kilkenny or Cork to win at odds of between 8/1 and 12/1 on average. Similarly, you could even wager a single betting unit on a relative outsider like Waterford to prevail, at a market leading price of 33/1 with William Hill.

The key here is to leverage your market analysis to cover as many potential likely outcomes as possible, while optimising your chances of achieving at least a small return on your total stake.

Just remember to tailor the stake amount to reflect an outcome’s odds and core value proposition. For example, you should increase your stake when betting on short-price favourites like Limerick who are likely to win. Conversely, consider betting less on outright winners such as Galway and Kilkenny, as this caps your potential losses without overly compromising on your returns.

🏆 All-Ireland Hurling Championship Outright Winner Prediction

Now it’s time to get into my All Ireland Hurling Championship final predictions for 2023, based on the quality of the competing teams, their form and relative strength. So, here’s a breakdown of the three most likely winners (and finalists) and my tip on which of these sides will ultimately prevail!

1️⃣ Limerick

Where else but to start but with Limerick, who are odds-on favourite to win the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship for the fourth consecutive year (and 12th time overall).

As I’ve already touched on, ‘The Shannonsiders’ look almost unbeatable at present, particularly after their demolition of Kilkenny in 2022. They also won at a canter in their first Munster provincial match of 2023, with Seamus Flanagan’s 21st-minute goal proving decisive despite Limerick being reduced to 14 men following the late dismissal of Gearóid Hegarty.

Of course, this prevented Limerick from adding to their lead and winning in style, but they were in control throughout and never really threatened by Davy Fitzgerald's side.

Limerick even looked fitter than last season and all the better for the addition of the exceptional Shane O’Brien, while the fact that Cian Lynch and Peter Casey are back to full fitness makes the challenging of stopping this team even harder this time around. So, my All Ireland Hurling outright prediction for 2023 is that Limerick will prevail once again this year!

2️⃣ Kilkenny

Last year’s vanquished finalists Kilkenny are joint-second favourites to win the 2023 All Ireland Championship, while they can be backed at around 6/5 to win the Leinster provincial championship.

They’ll also see manager Derek Lyng take the helm for a second successive year, and the side will undoubtedly look to build on last season’s relative success which came against the backdrop of significant transition and a sustained tactical realignment.

Crucially, they’ll be much-improved this time around, while they certainly looked dominant during their opening weekend win against Westmeath at a rocking UPMC Nowlan Park.

Of course, doubts remain about the durability of Kilkenny’s talismanic TJ Reid, while the side lacks a little strength and depth at half-back. Still, they’re sure to contend for the All Ireland crown in 2023 and will be a tough match for anyone if they get to the final!

3️⃣ Galway

Kilkenny’s Leinster rivals Galway will also be key competitors in 2023, with Henry Shefflin’s side arguably the best placed to beat an all-conquering Limerick side on their day.

They’re also favourites to win the Leinster Provincial Championships at evens odds, while they’re price of 7/1 to lift the All Ireland crown is competitive given the immense talent at their disposal.

The question that remains is whether Galway can produce the consistency to win the 2023 All Ireland Hurling Championships, with this seriously lacking throughout the side’s 2022 campaign. Here, they lost limply at Kilkenny before taking an almighty swing at a shocked Limerick side, who struggled to cope with Galway’s intensity and defensive fortitude before ultimately prevailing in the All Ireland semis.

While Galway beat Wexford comfortably in their season opener at the Pearse Stadium, they’ve been seriously weakened by injury to David Burke. So, although they’re contenders and can beat anyone on their day, this won’t be enough by itself to overcome Limerick in 2023.

My Prediction – Limerick to Win!
