⚡ Jordan Electrics LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase Betting Preview
This 13-strong field features a number of outstanding runners, so Future Champion Novices' Chase betting may be a challenging pastime in 2023. As part of my LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase preview, however, I’ve highlighted the four key runners who are most likely to win this years’ iteration of the race.
1️⃣ Balco Coastal
Balco Coastal is the narrow ante post favourite to win the 2023 Future Champion Novices' Chase, at an average price of 11/4. This is despite a disappointing showing at the Cheltenham Festival in March, when the seven-year-old gelding finished last in the Grade 1 Turners Novices' Chase.
This race would have been ideal preparation as it’s run over an almost identical distance to the Future Champion Novices' Chase, but the Nicky Henderson-trained runner weakened significantly ahead of the final two fences and eventually finished a whopping 17½ lengths behind the winner Stage Star.
Prior to this, however, Balco Coastal performed well when placing second in the Grade 1 Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices' Chase at Sandown in February, while he went one better when winning the Ladbrokes Get Your £1 Free Bet Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.
Although this remains Balco Coastal’s sole steeplechase win to date, the runner is used to competing in high-quality races and generally performs well over 2 miles or more. So, he’s definitely a key contender to win the 2023 Future Champion Novices' Chase.
2️⃣ Notlongtillmay
Notlongtillmay heralds from the excellent L J Morgan stable, while this talented seven-year-old gelding has won three of his four career steeplechase outings to date. He placed second in his other outing too, trailing Stage Star by just 3¼ lengths in the aforementioned Turners Novices' Chase at Cheltenham.
While he wasn’t always fluent, Notlongtillmay was prominent throughout, staying the course superbly and pushing Stage Star down the final straight. So, although this ended a run of four consecutive steeplechase wins, he showcased his ability to compete with top-class runners on the biggest of stages.
His winning sequence included successive victories at Musselburgh in January and February, while November saw him triumph in the Class 3 racingtv.com/freetrial Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Wetherby in good going.
You can back Notlongtillmay to win at 3/1 with most sportsbooks, and he definitely offers value as an outright wager in 2023.
3️⃣ McFabulous
The seasoned nine-year-old McFabulous is also priced at around 3/1 to win the 2023 Future Champion Novices' Chase, with this Paul Nicholls-trained runner having made his name over the hurdles. In fact, he has won five and placed in the top-three in 10 of his 13 career outings, before going on to win two of five steeplechase races.
In his last steeplechasing outing (the Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Newbury), however, McFabulous pulled up before the 13th after being outpaced. A subsequent veterinary examination found that the gelding had an irregular heartbeat, although he has since been cleared to race at Ayr.
Previously, McFabulous had enjoyed an excellent run of form, placing second in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices' Chase (In Memory Of Nigel Clark) at Kempton. He was prominent throughout here in excellent company, although Thyme Hill ultimately pulled away down the stretch to win by 15 lengths.
This followed consecutive wins at Newbury and Exeter, so McFabulous will arrive at Ayr in relatively good form. Whether he can win the 2023 Future Champion Novices' Chase remains unclear, but he definitely offers value as a potential each-way bet.
4️⃣ Thunder Rock
The bookies are pricing Thunder Rock at around 13/2, with these odds having drifted following a recent run of slightly underwhelming form. This Olly Murphy-trained runner certainly struggled in the Grade 1 Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, placing sixth in a field of 10 and weakening significantly in the second half of the race.
He also recorded two third place steeplechase finishes at Cheltenham and Sandown in January and February respectively, with his last win coming at Ascot in November 2022.
Here, the seven-year-old raced superbly in the Racing Welfare Novices' Limited Handicap Chase and even survived a wobble at the second to last, eventually winning by 8½ lengths from Solo at a starting price of 7/4.
Ultimately, his career pedigree and performance should outweigh his recent form, although the later may encourage you to back Thunder Rock each-way rather than as an outright selection.
⭐ Jordan Electrics LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase 2023 Betting Tips
As you can see, the 2023 field for the Jordan Electrics LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase 2023 is highly competitive, so it’s important that you develop a betting strategy that enables you to get the absolute most from your starting bankroll. Here are some LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase 2023 betting tips that can help you to achieve this objective!
✔️ Be Selective When reviewing the Form
One of the key staples of successful sports betting is research, and in the case of horse racing, this means studying each runner’s form and their previous performances.
However, ‘study the form’ is a vague and generic betting tip, and I’d recommend that you’re selective when analysing past performances and focus on a number of key metrics.
Certainly, you should look to see how runners have performed over a specific distance, while also distinguishing between hurdle and steeplechase races. It’s also worth seeing how horses fare in specific conditions, paying particular attention to runners who tend to perform well in the type of good-soft going that’s forecast for Ayr over the Scottish Grand National betting weekend.
Fortunately, the Future Champion Novices' Chase isn’t a handicap race, so you won’t have to consider the impact of weights on runners and the eventual outcome.
✔️ Consider the Different Bet Types Available
Events like the Scottish Grand National Festival tend to transcend the sport of horse racing, appealing to a mass audience and casual punters in the process. This means that the majority of bets taken on races like the Future Champion Novices' Chase are either outright or each-way wagers, but these only represent the tip of the iceberg in the marketplace.
There’s a huge range of bet types available when wagering on horse races, including quinella and trifecta bets. The former requires you to bet on the two runners that you think will place in the top two at the Future Champion Novices' Chase (in no particular order), whereas trifecta wagers increase the number of selections to three.
Of course, these bet types increase the level of risk while also hiking your potential returns, so they’re ideal if you’re a particularly knowledgeable punter who’s able to study the form intuitively.
I’d urge you to consider the full range of available betting markets before wagering on the Jordan Electrics LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase, as this may help you to unlock additional value in the odds that are presented.
✔️ Make the Most of Promotions and Sportsbook Features
Another key to successful horse race betting is to minimise the risk of loss where possible, and there are numerous ways to achieve this when wagering on the Future Champion Novices' Chase.
Each-way betting can be helpful in this respect, as it effectively splits your stake between two potential outcomes. More specifically, half of your original stake backs a selected runner to win, while the remainder bets on the same horse to place in the top four (or five if you wager with a sportsbook that runs an ‘extra place’ promotion).
Some bookies also promote insurance features ahead of races like the Future Champion Novices' Chase. For example, taking out so-called “acca” insurance ensures that your accumulators pay out even if one of your selections doesn’t come in, minimising the risk of loss significantly in the process.
Make no mistake; risk management is key, especially if you intend to bet on multiple races at the Scottish Grand National Festival. As you can see, there are several betting markets and sportsbook features that help in this regard, and I’d recommend that you make the most of these where possible.
🏆 Jordan Electrics LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase 2023 Prediction
Prior to his struggles at Cheltenham in March, Balco Coastal may have been an even bigger stake as one of the LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase favourites in 2023. Despite finishing last in the Turners Novices' Chase, however, the gelding performed with distinction at Sandown while also winning at Kempton in similar company.
While it would be unwise to discount Balco Coastal as one of the potential LTD Future Champion Novices' Chase winners (and he’s definitely a good value each-way bet), it’s L J Morgan’s Notlongtillmay that really catches my eye in the field.
After all, he has never finished outside the top two in any of his career steeplechasing outings, while achieving a close second place in the Turners Novices' Chase at a starting price of 40/1 perfectly demonstrated his ability to compete with the very best.
Most importantly, he proved himself to be a stayer who’s highly likely to last the challenging Ayr course, and my 2023 Future Champion Novices' Chase prediction is that Notlongtillmay will ultimately win the race.
In terms of the other contenders, McFabulous may have peaked and is unlikely to be widely backed after pulling up last time out in the Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Newbury. However, he may be worth a nominal each-way bet, while Thunder Rock is worthy of a similar status despite his own poor showing at Cheltenham in March.
If you’d like to stake a nominal amount on an outside runner, consider backing Richmond Lake to win at 20/1 with BoyleSports. He has placed in the top three in each of his last three steeplechase outings (triumphing twice), while his performance in winning the Class 3 Bob "Few Scoops" Kerslake's 70th Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Haydock last time out marked him as one to watch at Ayr.
🏆 My Prediction: Notlongtillmay to Win! 🐎
