💯 The Irish Greyhound Derby 2024 Odds
Bockos Diamond is the clear ante post favourite to win the 2024 Irish Greyhound Derby, with an average price of 2.38 implying a 42.01% probability of the Graham Holland-trained runner prevailing.
This is remarkable given that 24 runners remain in contention, but not surprising given his level of performance so far. Bockos Diamond is also priced at around 1.36 to win his quarterfinal heat next weekend.
Bombay Pat, who will compete in the second quarterfinal heat, is priced at 9.00 win the Irish Greyhound Derby outright. So, he has just a 11.11% chance of achieving this objective, while you can back Cheap Sandwiches and March On Freddie at similar prices online. However, the quarterfinal odds imply that each of these runners has an excellent chance of qualifying for the next stage.

🔍 The Irish Greyhound Derby Quarter-Final Betting Tips for 2024
In terms of quarterfinal betting, it’s interesting to note that the three ante post favourites will compete in separate heats at Shelbourne Park.
However, Bombay Pat will do battle with March On Freddie in the opening heat, with both runners being tipped reach the final and compete for the €125,000 first prize. Outright favourite Bockos Diamond will also take on popular outside picks Seven Beach and Callaway Knegare in heat four, with three runners set to qualify from each race.
But what are the best quarterfinal betting lines and markets? Here are some expert tips and insights to help you maximise your bankroll!
Tip #1️⃣ Back to Bockos Diamond to Win Heat 4
While Bockos Diamond is priced at just 1.36 to win heat four in the quarterfinals, this pedigree runner still offers immense value.
After all, Graham Holland’s outright favourite has won 14 successive races since May 17th, while he has triumphed in 18 of his 20 career outings (90%) to date.
What’s more, Bockos Diamond electrified Shelbourne Park in the third round on Saturday, winning his heat in just 28.94 seconds and setting a new track record for 550 yards.
He recorded convincing wins in the first and second rounds too, while defeating several of his Irish Greyhound Derby rivals (including Carrick Aldo, Cheap Sandwiches and Seven Beach) since September 14th. So, it’s hard to look past him recording a 15th successive win and progressing to the semi-final stage.
Tip #2️⃣ Pick March on Freddie to Win Heat 1
Bombay Pat is the favourite to win the first quarterfinal heat next weekend, after prevailing in five successive races since September 21st and all three of his Irish Derby heats in 2024.
However, March on Freddie has ran quicker than Bombay Pat during the first three rounds of competition, romping home in just 29.19 seconds on October 19th and finishing an impressive 7.5 lengths clear of Miami King.
Bombay Pat’s fastest time during qualifying was 29.30 seconds, although this did come in a challenging third round heat featuring Callaway Knegare and Short Grip.
So, although March on Freddie finished second to Extra Gain by 0.03 seconds in the third round, he offers excellent value to edge his quarterfinal heat at 4.00. You can also choose to back him via an each-way bet at the same odds.
Tip #3️⃣ Back Carrick Aldo to Win Heat 3
The most open and difficult-to-call quarterfinal race is heat three, which doesn’t include any of the seven outright favourites. However, a number of proven runners will compete here, including Da Bold Falcon, Carrick Aldo and Undulation.
While the latter has placed in the top two in each of his previous nine races, he has yet to run faster than 29.39 seconds during the 2024 Irish Derby heats. Both Carrick Aldo and Undulation ran considerably quicker during the third round alone, recording times of 29.15 and 29.16 in their respective heats.
Although Undulation is more experienced over 550 yards, sprint star Carrick Aldo is noticeably quicker on average. Despite placing second to the record breaking to Bockos Diamond last time out, it should be noted that his time of 29.15 would have won any other third round heat.
So, I’d recommend picking Carrick Aldo to prevail in heat three, especially as the competitive price of 2.63. He’s competitively priced in the outright market too, but I’ll touch on this a little later in the guide.
🏆 The 2024 Irish Greyhound Tips
Of the 24 quarterfinal competitors, there are a handful that are highly likely to progress to the next stage and beyond. But which three contenders do I think will star in the quarterfinal heats and potentially offer the best value in the outright market? Let’s find out!
Bockos Diamond
As I’ve touched on, two-year-old Bockos Diamond has won 18 of his 20 career races to date, and all five of his runs over 550 yards. His stunning run in the Irish Greyhound Derby third round last weekend set a record over the distance for Shelbourne Park, with rival Carrick Aldo ultimately trailing by three lengths and 0.21 seconds.
This superb run included sectional times of 3.30 and 16.63, while it comfortably superseded the previous track record (which was 28.99 and held by Pestana). No other contender has even broke the 29.00 second barrier during this year’s Irish Greyhound Derby heats, so it’s hard to see who can snap Bockos Diamond’s 14-race winning streak in the next stage. It’s certainly easy to see why he’s the outright favourite in 2024!
Bombay Pat
Like his rival Bockos Diamond, Bombay Pat is also two years old and has won each of his three Irish Greyhound Derby heats so far. He has raced consistently throughout too, producing a peak time of 29.30 when defeating Short Grip by 2-and-a-half lengths last time out. He also excels over 550 yards, winning seven of the eight races he has contested over this distance.
Across these races, Bombay Pat averages an impressive time of 29.39 seconds. So, although I have picked March on Freddie to defeat him in their quarterfinal heat, I still expect Bombay Pat to qualify for the semis, while the latter’s greater consistency makes him the most likely outright winner outside of Bockos Diamond at the time of writing.
Carrick Aldo
Although Carrick Aldo is a little older than some of his competitors at three years old, he also has immense pedigree and is a former Irish Sprint Cup champion. Despite trailing Bockos Diamond during his rival’s record third round run, Carrick Aldo also produced the run of a lifetime to finish in 29.15 seconds and book his place in the quarterfinals.
Across the three Irish Greyhound Derby heats so far, ‘Aldo’ has recorded an average finish time of 29.31 seconds. What’s more, he has placed in the top three in each of his four races over 550 yards, while he’s competitively priced at 26.00 to win the 2024 Irish Greyhound Derby outright. If he reaches the final, he’ll certainly offer value, particularly as an each-way pick!
