💵 How to Bet on The Players Championship Odds
One of the main reasons why golf has become a popular sport for betting is the fact that it has so many different markets that punters can put their hard-earned money on. In fact, I would forgive you if you thought that golf was created for the main purpose of sports betting. I am now going to take you through some of the best golf betting markets that you can bet on.
Outright Winner
This is a straightforward bet where you are betting on the golfer that you believe will go on and lift the trophy, while significantly boosting their bank account. If they win the title, you win your bet. If they do not, you lose your stake. See, completely simple.
For such a market, I recommend that you place your bet as early as you can since the odds will start to decrease as the competition plays out. The earlier that you place your bet, the better the potential profit will be if you manage to pick the winner.
Prop Bets
A prop bet, for those who are new to sports betting, is a bet on an individual performance or something particular happening during the event. For instance, a common golf prop bet is betting on whether any player will land a hole-in-one - this is a hard thing to do, so the odds of it happening are usually quite enticing. Another prop bet could be betting on a player to record a particular score on one of the days.
Prop bets can be very entertaining, but they are a high-risk type of bet due to the odds that are involved. As a result, I suggest that you never go all out when making such a wager.
Winning Margin
Maybe betting on the outright winner is something that does not appeal to you, or maybe you are so sure of the winner that you want to spice things up a little bit. If so, then the margin of victory market is a good betting option. With such a market, you can choose the winner as well as the number of strokes that they will win by to increase potential winnings.
However, if you are not sure of the winner, then you can just bet on how much the eventual winner will win by. The majority of bookies will offer their punters a margin of one, two, or three strokes, with some even offering four or more. Obviously, if you are just betting on the winning margin and not the winner as well, the odds will be lower, but they are usually pretty enticing nonetheless.
Top Nationality
If you do not want to back a player to beat the rest of the field, then you can back them to be the top player from their nation. This market can give good returns if you select it carefully. For instance, it is tricky to name the top American since there are usually quite a few of them, but betting on the likes of Henrik Stenson being the top Swede is a wise move since he is best from a much smaller field.
✔️ The Players Championship Betting Tips 2023
So, now that I have given you some popular golf betting markets, I am now going to move on and provide you with some quality betting tips for this competition. Placing a bet and hoping that luck is on your side might work every now and then, but you will usually end up losing more than you win. So, when you go ahead and bet on the Players Championship 2024, keep these tips in mind.
Player Head-to-Head Records
Instead of backing a player to win an event, many top bookmakers will pair up two golfers and you then have the option of betting on the one that you will think will finish in a better position. One of the players will be classified as the favourite and the other as an underdog - such pairings rarely have an outcome on the overall winner.
If you are going to place such a bet, then you need to ask yourself some of the following questions:
- Is the course better for short or longer hitters?
- Who is the better putter?
- Is the player suited to the course style?
- Does one player have a more favourable tee time?
- How have they performed against each other in the past?
- Who is currently in better form
- Will one of the players have more support?
Player Injuries
The risk of injuries in golf, when compared to other sports such as football, is low, but that is not to say that injuries cannot happen. Common injuries in this sport occur in the lower back, elbow, and wrist. Some players will rush back from an injury and punters will have no issue betting on them, but my advice to you is to not put your money on a player who is just returning from an injury. This is because there is a high chance that they will be out of nick and there is also the possibility of the niggle returning during the event.
Betting Value
When you are betting on golf, or any other sport, it is important that you learn to spot the value bets. A value bet is one that has a higher chance of winning than the odds would imply, and those who learn to spot such bets can have a more fruitful betting experience - although keep in mind that winning can never be guaranteed.
The key here is to do plenty of research because knowledge is power. You need to read as many stats as you can and keep track of how players have been performing as of late. Once you think you have found yourself a value bet, place your stake down right away because the more punters that bet on that outcome, the lower the odds will be.
Player Specializations
If you are a fan of horse racing, then you will already know that some horses perform much better at certain courses, and the same can be said for golfers. It is very rare to come across a golfer that has the ability to perform to the best of his skills at any golf course. Before you go ahead and bet on a player to win, you should check out how they have performed on similar courses in the past.
One piece of advice is to consider golfers that are playing in an area that they are really comfortable with. For instance, Phil Mickelson is from San Diego and studied at Arizona State, so it cannot be a coincidence that his first seven victories came on the West Coast.

2024 Players Championship Format
This competition is a 72- hole event, with the field being divided into threesome for round one and two. In these two first rounds, the threesomes will tee off in the morning and then in the afternoon. Each threesome will also begin one of the rounds on the first tee and another on the tenth tea, with an evenly split field during the morning and afternoon.
Once 36 holes have been played, a cut is made to reduce the field to 65 players - those who make the cut will be allowed to carry on, while those who do not will be eliminated. For rounds three and four, the tee times and pairings will be based on each individual's score - those with the highest score will go first. The player that has the lowest score once 72 holes have been played will be the winner.
