Golf fans worldwide are in for a right treat between the 12th and 15th of September as the 2024 Amgen Irish Open heads to Royal County Down Golf Club. This Northern Irish golf course is one of the best links courses on the tour and offers some of the most spectacular views. The weather can turn quickly, and there are domed greens and tricky bunkers that test even the best golfers. There is plenty of drama, but who will go on and win the 2024 title? All of my views can be seen below.
🎱 Irish Open Golf Betting Preview
Due to the prestige of this golf competition and the prize money that is on offer to the player who wins the Irish Open 2024 outright, there is a strong field once again. A good number of players will really fancy their chances of taking home the prize money of just over €1 million, and this strong field has provided us with some enticing odds.
However, before you jump in and start slapping down your wagers, let me provide you with an overview of three players who I believe are in with a very good shot of finishing at the top of the table and writing their name in golfing history. Under each player, you can see the Irish Open odds that some of the best betting sites are currently offering.
1️⃣ Rory McIlroy
Few out there know this golf course as well as McIlroy as this is where he used to practice with his father at the start of his professional career. He has claimed the Irish Open title once since then, but it was not at his golf course. While he has fond memories of this course, he has some bitter ones as well as he lost the Walker Cup here in 2007 and missed the cut when the Irish Open took place here back in 2015.
He has had plenty of highs and lows this season, with some of the highs being three global wins and one of the lows being missing the cut in the 152nd Open. We all know how good he can be on his day, so it is no surprise that he is the favourite to win with the bookies. Furthermore, he will be spurred on by a crowd who will be eager to see one of their own lift the title.

2️⃣ Tristan Lawrence
Tristan Lawrence has won four titles on the DP World Tour and currently sits in second place in the Race to Dubai - only McIlroy lies in his way. He has landed five top-10 finishes during this season, including finishing in second place at the British Masters a couple of weeks ago. This success has seen him jump to 61 in the official Golf World Rankings.
He picked up fourth place at the Open Championship, finishing strongly with closing scores of 65 and 68, which suggests to me that he has the skills needed to tame the links in County Down. The bookies seem to agree with me as they have him as one of their favourites.

3️⃣ Shane Lowry
Shane Lowry's most successful season came in 2019 when he won the British Open, and he is currently having a season that is pretty close to rivalling that year's success. This season he made it to the final of the Tour Championship for the first time, which has led him to his most financially successful campaign in the USA, and he also won the Zurich Classic with McIlroy. This is the first of many golf events across the pond for Lowry, and he will have Ryder Cup qualification on his mind.
The last time he played at RCD was in the 2015 Irish Open, and he ended up breaking his putter in anger during the second round. This meant that he had to use his wedge to putt, but he still managed to make the cut. He is a completely different player now and will put in a strong challenge for his second Irish Open trophy.

4️⃣Robert MacIntyre
Several players have been in really good form in recent tournaments, but if I were to pick a player who has managed to elevate their golf across the season then it would be Robert MacIntyre. He started the year outside of the top 60 but wins in the Genesis Scottish Open and the RBC Canadian Open have propelled him to 16th in the rankings. He has also managed to claim three top-ten finishes this season.
He has made a name for himself from his recent performances and nobody will be taking him lightly. He is actually not one of the favourites to win with the sports betting sites, but his form gives him just as good a chance of winning as anyone else. If he goes on to win, he will become the first player in the history of the sport to win both the Scottish and Irish Open in the same season.

🏆 Irish Open Golf Prediction
If you are going to do some sports betting on the outright winner of the Irish Open 2024, then I recommend that you consider backing Lowry to go on and lift the title.
McIlroy was the favourite ahead of this competition starting, but I cannot look past his tendency to crumble under pressure when playing in Ireland. He also blew a chance to end his Major title drought back in June at the US Open, and I think this might still be playing on his mind. For me, Lowry is a better links player and can handle the pressure of a home tournament better.
Lowry won the Irish Open back in 2009 when he was not even a professional, showing from the get-go his ability to perform on a links course. Not only does he have the skills for such courses, but he is also in pretty decent form this season, putting in a very solid showing at Royal Troon a few months back. The only thing missing from his season this year is some silverware, and I would not be surprised if he put that right in the coming days.

⭐ Irish Open Betting Tips
Now that you know who I think will win the Amgen 2024 Irish Open, it is now time for me to give you some other Irish Open betting tips. As always, when you are betting on golf or any other sport, make sure that you do so responsibly. Set yourself a budget and stick to it.
Who Will Finish in the Top 10?
If you are torn regarding the outright winner market, then you can give yourself a bit of insurance by taking a look at the Top 10 market. With such a market, you just need to pick a player who you think will finish inside the top 10 - although you have a higher chance of landing this bet, the odds are usually still pretty decent due to the large number of participants.
Tip 1: My recommended golfer for the top 10 market is Ryan Fox. The New Zealander has shown in the past that he is more than capable on the links and he has a very good record in the Emerald Isle. Furthermore, as a Kiwi, he will have no issue contending with the harsh weather conditions that can appear out of nowhere. BoyleSports are currently offering odds of 8.50.
Who is a Top Each-Way Flutter?
You might think that someone has a really good chance of doing well in a competition but are unsure as to whether they will claim the silverware on offer. In such a case, you can back your selected player to place - top bookies such as BoyleSports offer each-way places for the top five at 1/4 odds. This means that your golfer is required to finish 5th place or better to see you land some returns.
Tip 2: For the each-way market, I would suggest that you consider putting your money on Thriston Lawrence. He has been in very good form this season, despite not winning any trophies, and will head into the competition full of confidence after his showing at the British Masters a couple of weeks ago. He enjoys playing on links courses, and a top-five finish is definitely not out of the equation. Unibet are offering odds of 14.00 at present for this outcome.
Don’t Bet Based on Odds Only
When you check out the odds that are on offer for golf events, you will see that some players have much shorter odds than they should do. They have not been playing well but the bookies have based their odds on their reputation. When you are sports betting, it is important to bet on form and not reputation alone.
Tip 3: Nicolaj Hojgaard was pretty high up the outright winner odds ahead of the 2024 Irish Open even though his season, which started promisingly with a second-place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open, has steadily gone downhill. He has only had one top-ten finish since then and is being backed off his raw talent alone. I think he is too inexperienced to win this, so I would not back him as an outright or each-way option.
