Clare and Kerry will do battle in the Munster Championship final for the second consecutive year, although the ‘Banner Men’ may not welcome being reminded of this fact. At the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick last year, David and Paudie Clifford ran riot in a 14-point victory for Kerry, as ‘The Kingdom’ recorded a record-extending 84th provincial triumph. Unsurprisingly, Kerry are also the odds-on favourites among Ireland’s best betting sites to win again in 2024, but what are the chances that Clare can spring a surprise at Cusack Park in Ennis?

Last year’s win was also Kerry’s third successive provincial title win, while Clare haven’t beaten The Kingdom since in a Munster final since 1992. Kerry also won the All-Ireland final in 2022, and the depth and level of quality that exists in their squad earmarks them as one of the teams to beat this time around too.
However, Kerry were far from convincing during their last four victory over Cork, who surged into an early five-point lead despite not defeating their rivals at Killarney since 1995. This may provide hope to an unfancied Clare outfit, with Kerry struggling offensively in the semi-finals and relying on their defensive organisation to stay in the game.
This performance alone is not enough to undermine the brilliance of Kerry’s attackers, however, including the aforementioned Clifford brothers, Seán Ó Shea and midfielder Paul Walsh. It can therefore be hard for opponents to completely shackle Kerry, as while Cork kept both Cliffords quiet in the last four, the in-form Ó Shea made hay in the space he was subsequently afforded.
Clare will face a similar challenge at Cusack Park, and it’s hard to see them being able to mount a serious title tilt in the Munster final if Kerry play anything like their best. In fact, the unconvincing nature of their last four wins over Cork could serve as a wake-up call for The Kingdom, and I’m tipping them to record a fourth successive Munster title win in 2024!

Kerry Update
Kerry are on a four-game winning streak in all competitions, after their 10-point defeat to Allianz Division 1 rivals Dublin on February 24th. Of course, this helped the Dubs to finish above Kerry in the National League, with The Kingdom ultimately finishing third by virtue of points difference and narrowly missing out on a place in the National League finals. They remain the team to beat in Munster and one of the main contenders in the 2024 All-Ireland Championship this summer, notwithstanding their sluggish start and underwhelming performance against Cork last time out. They’re also virtually at full strength ahead of the Munster final.
