The Azerbaijan Grand Prix proved to be another nightmare for the Red Bull team, who were overtaken by McLaren at the top of the Constructors’ Championship. This race also saw Max Verstappen’s winless run extended to seven races, while the previously dominant Dutchman now has just one podium finish in his previous five Formula 1 outings. Things could get worse before they improve for both parties, with Verstappen yet to win at the upcoming Singapore GP and Red Bull’s balance issues likely to be tested once again at the Marina Bay Circuit. But who will win here, and will the Drivers’ Championship take another unexpected turn? Read our comprehensive betting guide to learn more!

Singapore Grand Prix – Key Points

  • This will be the 18th race of the 2024 F1 season, with Lando Norris having cut Verstappen’s lead at the top of the Driver’s Championship to 59 points after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. A total of eight races remain in the campaign.
  • Max Verstappen is now winless in seven races, after triumphing in 26 of the previous 32 since the beginning of the 2023 season. Lando Norris (one) and Oscar Piastri (two) have won three of the last Formula 1 races contested in 2024.
  • Verstappen remains the outright favourite to win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship. However, he’ll need to improve on his recent record of one podium finish in five races in Singapore, otherwise he may lose further ground to Norris, Leclerc and Piastri.

Singapore Grand Prix Betting Odds

Let’s start by appraising the latest odds from Ireland’s best betting sites. Here, Lando Norris is the pre-race favourite and can be backed to prevail at 3.00, implying a 33.33% probability of a win for the in-form McLaren driver.

Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri, who won in Baku last time out and has earned four podium finishes in his previous five races, is priced at around 4.00 and has a 25% chance of triumphing. Charles Leclerc, who won at Monza and could thrive at the Singapore track in his Ferrari, may offer value at odds of 4.30. They imply a 23.25% probability of a victory for Leclerc.

Circuit Breakdown and Race Condition

The Marina Bay Circuit is one of the newest on the F1 calendar, having been constructed in 2008. The initial design was submitted by Herman Tilke and refined by KBR Inc, with the track hosting its maiden Grand Prix during the 2008 season. This was the 15th race of that particular campaign, while it was the first ever night-time race in the history of Formula 1.

At 5.063km, the Marina Bay Circuit is just the 15th-longest on the calendar, but remains the most physically demanding for drivers. This is due to the track’s twisting and turning design, with the street circuit home to 23 corners and minimal straights. Turn 18 is particularly demanding, with this requiring drivers to pass underneath a grandstand at high speed.

What’s more, drivers must contend with high humidity in Singapore. In fact, the conditions can cause drivers to lose up to 3kg in weight over the course of a race, so only the fittest and most mentally resilient competitors are likely to fare well at Marina Bay.

This weekend should be no exception, with typically humid conditions and scattered thunderstorms forecast for all three days. However, it’s expected that the rain will have dried up before the Grand Prix starts at 21:00 local time, so drivers can at least look forward to a dry and relatively quick track.

Singapore Grand Prix Betting Tips

If you want to bet on the Singapore GP, you’ll need to consider everything from recent team form and the prevailing conditions to the range of wagering markets available. So, I’ve prepared some expert Singapore Grand Prix betting tips to help you make the most informed selections possible!

  • Winner – Charles Leclerc
  • Points Finish – Oscar Piastri
  • Fastest Lap Time – Lando Norris

Winner – Charles Leclerc

This is a tough race to call, especially as the last five Grand Prix events have produced four different winners. However, Ferrari looks increasingly consistent of late and tends to perform well on street circuit layouts, thanks to their cars’ superior aerodynamic design.

Charles Leclerc is also is excellent form, having placed second in Baku last week and won by +2.664 seconds at Monza on September 1st. He also won superbly in Monte Carlo earlier in the season, highlighting his ability to navigate twisting street circuits with aplomb. So, he’s my pick to edge the 2024 Singapore GP at a price of 4.35 with Goldenbet.

Podium Finish – Oscar Piastri

Carlos Sainz Jr. definitely offers value as a podium finisher here, as he’ll also benefit from Ferrari’s aerodynamic design and reduced wheelbase length. What’s more, he won the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix for Ferrari, edging McLaren’s Lando Norris by just +0.812 seconds.

However, Oscar Piastri has been in superb form of late, earning four podium finishes in his last five races and victories in Azerbaijan and at the Hungaroring. Interestingly, he also placed second in the similar Monte Carlo GP, trailing Leclerc by +7.152 seconds. So, I’m backing him to finish on the podium again in Singapore at a price of 1.53 with Sportaza.

Fastest Lap Time -Lando Norris

Although Ferrari may have an advantage in Singapore, McLaren continue to perform consistently well on all types of track and are now the team to beat in the Constructors’ Championship. They certainly appear to be faster than their competitors at the moment, especially when you factor in the form of their drivers and Red Bull’s recurring balance issues.

Lando Norris has also recorded the fastest lap time in the last three races, being the only driver to break the 1:46.00 barrier in Baku and running nearly two seconds quicker than Leclerc at Monza. So, get on Norris to record the fastest lap again in Singapore at the competitive price of 2.75 with LegendPlay.

Our 2024 Singapore GP Prediction?

Ultimately, this will be an incredibly tough race to call, thanks to the winding nature of the Marina Bay Circuit and physically demanding conditions for drivers. Still, Ferrari’s aerodynamic vehicles have a distinct advantage on street circuit layouts, while driver Charles Leclerc is in superb form.

He also won impressively at the similar Monte Carlo track on May 26th, so I’m tipping him to record a second victory in three races at the Singapore F1 race in 2024!
