The PDC European Darts Championship Betting Guide – What to know to Bet On

However, since 2016, it is only the best 32 players from the PDC European Tour Order of Merit that are invited to take part. The 2023 edition of the PDC European Darts Championship will take place between the 26th and 29th of October, which means that it is still quite some time away. ✔️ PDC European Darts Championship Betting Tips 2023
Irish sports betting fans enjoy betting on darts because there are a good number of markets that bets can be placed on. Here I am going to take a look at some popular European Championship markets and give you some tips to boot. While these tips cannot guarantee you a win, they can increase your chances of placing a successful bet.
European Darts Championship Tournament Winner
This is a really common and popular market, and even those who are new to sports betting should be able to understand what it involves. With this market, what you need to do is try to predict the player that will go on and win the whole event.
Top Tip 1: When it comes to outright betting, try to place your bets as early as you can since the odds will be at their best right at the start of a competition. As players are knocked out, the odds will start to shorten, and the potential profit will decrease. Also, do not bet on a player solely because of their ranking, bet on them because of their form.
Most 180s
In a game of darts, the highest score a player can make when at the oche is 180, and all of the top sports betting sites will allow you to bet on the player that you think will land the most 180s in a match, leg, or set.
Top Tip 2: Do not just pick one player and hope that luck is on your side - that is a sure way to lose money. There are plenty of player stats on the Internet, and you should use everything at your disposal to increase your chances of landing a winning wager. Do your research and check out who is in better form and who has been hitting the most 180s recently.
Nine-Dart Finish
In a leg of darts, the first player to score 501 - finishing with any double - is a winner. The minimum number of darts that a player can throw to win a leg of darts is 9, and doing so is equivalent to a snooker player scoring a 147 or a golfer hit a hole-in-one. All of the top bookmakers will allow their punters to bet on there being a nine-dart finish in a match, and due to how rare they are, the odds are usually pretty enticing.
Top Tip 3: If you are enticed by such a bet, I recommend that you do not put a huge amount of money on it due to the difficulty of getting this kind of market correct. Even if you put down a small stake, due to the odds that should be on offer, you should still land a nice profit should someone land a nine-dart finish.
Over/Under Betting for Total Legs and Games
Instead of betting on the overall winner of a match, you can bet on the total number of legs that a player will win or the total number of legs there will be in the match. For instance, if you bet on Michael van Gerwen to win over 4.5 legs and he wins at least five, you will have placed a successful bet. If he wins a maximum of four, then the bet is lost. The odds for such a market are not always that enticing.
Top Tip 4: It is always important to look at form when betting on player markets, so before you put any money on a player to win a set number of legs, check out the kind of form that they have been in lately. If they have been out of form, I would not recommend that you put any money on them.
Handicap Betting
Darts handicap betting works by applying a points advantage or a disadvantage to one of the players - this type of betting comes in handy when one of the players is considered to be a huge favourite. The bigger the perceived skill difference between the two players, the bigger the handicap that the bookmaker will apply. For example, if you bet on Peter Wright to win a match with a -3.5 leg handicap, he would have to win by at least four legs for your wager to be successful.
Top Tip 5: The greatest difference in quality is likely to occur at the start of the competition since this is when higher ranked players will have a chance of playing against lower ranked ones. So, handicap betting is usually a good option at the start of any big event.
King of the Oche
This is a very interesting market since you are betting on one of the players to win the match, have the match's highest checkout, and most 180s. Since it is not easy for a player to be top in all three categories, the odds that are usually on offer are often very enticing.
Top Tip 6: If you come across a match and do not like the odds that are on offer for one of the players because they are the heavy favourite, then you can boost their odds by placing a King of the Oche bet. However, due to its difficulty levels, I would not recommend that you get into a habit of placing such a bet.
⚡ PDC European Darts Championship Betting Sites
Irish darts betting fans are not lacking for choice when it comes to sportsbooks that they can sign up with to bet on the European Darts Championship. Some bookmakers are better than their competitors, and below I have provided you with the name of five such bookies:
- BoyleSports
- TonyBet
- Betway
- Luckster
- William Hill
Let me now take a look at some of the main characteristics of each bookmaker:
BoyleSports
This Irish-based bookmaker are the main sponsors of some big darts events, so it stands to reason that they would be a great darts betting option for Irish punters. When there is a big event on, they give it the attention that it deserves, and you can find a variety of darts betting markets and competitive odds. They also have a very good in-play betting platform, which is great for those who like to place live bets.
If you make a qualifying bet of €10, you will receive €30 worth of free bets as well as €10 that you can use at their online casino - which is also a quality site for those who like to play casino games.
If you want to find out more about this Irish bookmaker, then please have a read of our BoyleSports review.
TonyBet
TonyBet is one of those sites that have been around for more than two decades, and one of the main reasons for their success is the fact that they have a reputation for offering a huge variety of markets for all the sports that they have on offer. Not only do they have a plethora of odds on offer, but they are not ones to skimp when it comes to odds. Boredom should not creep into play when betting here.
If you opt to register with this bookmaker, then your first deposit, so long as it is a minimum of €10, will be matched 100% up to the value of €100. They also offer other quality promotions that can be used on big darts events, so get into a habit of checking out their promotions page.

When it comes to big darts events like the European Darts Championship, you will find great odds and a range of live and pre-match markets. You will have nothing to complain about when it comes to banking options, mobile betting, or customer care.

Want to find out more about this quality bookie? If yes, then do yourself a favour and read our Betway review.
Luckster
Luckster is an Irish sportsbook, and while it does not have the same sort of popularity that BoyleSports currently has, it is definitely catching up. They have been around for a little over a year, but you should not let this deter you. With regard to their darts odds and markets, you will not be let down. Truth be told, they will not let you down in any department, whether it is banking, customer support, mobile, or live betting.
Those who register with this bookmaker can claim a 100% welcome bonus up to the value of €100, while they also have odds boosts on offer that can see you win up to 77% more than you would have done.
This Luckster review will help you find out all that you need to know about this bookmaker.
William Hill
Many Irish people already have an account with William Hill as they are a great site for betting on horses and greyhounds, but what many punters do not know is that William Hill is also a great site for betting on other popular sports such as darts. They will always offer competitive odds and markets, while they also offer all of the latest darts news and provide their own predictions and tips for the big events.
Want to open an account with William Hill? Well, if you do, you will be able to lay your hands on two free bets that have a value of €15 each. They also regularly offer other sporting promotions, so make sure that you get into the habit of checking out their promos page.
If you would like to find out more about this site, then simply take 10-15 mins to read our William Hill review.
N.B. All of the bonuses that I spoke about above will come with a range of terms and conditions. Always ensure that you read the terms and conditions that apply before you go ahead and claim any bonus or promotion that you come across. Also, please always make sure that you gamble responsibly.

📅 What Are the Schedules for the PDC European Darts Championship?
When you are planning on betting on an event, you need to know important information such as the schedule and the format, so this is what I will pay attention to now.
The Official Format
The top 32 players from the European Tour order of Merit will be invited to play in this event - the rankings are based off the prize money that each player won in the two previous European tour competitions that take place beforehand. The player that is ranked at the top of the rankings will play that player that is ranked at the bottom and so on. The winner progresses, while the loser is eliminated. I like this because it takes away the need to do a time-consuming draw.
First Round: The first round consists of 16 matches that are the best of 11 legs.
Second Round: The second round has 8 matches that are the best of 19 legs.
Quarter-Finals: The Quarter-Finals have eight matches that are the best of 19 legs
Semi-Final: there are two matches that are the best of 21 legs.
Final: The final will also be the best of 21 legs.

🏆Winners of the PDC European Darts Championship
The first edition of this competition happened in Frankfurt in 2008 and had a prize fund of of £200,000. The year after it took place in the Netherlands and had a similar prize pot. In 2010, it returned to Germany and was held there until 2014. For the 2015, 2016, and 2017 editions it was played in Belgium, before moving back to Germany again for three years. It then took place in Austria, with the last edition being held in Germany. As you already know, the 2023 edition will be held in Germany too.
The format and the prize money has remained pretty consistent throughout the years, while the two most successful players are Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor - they both have four titles each. Although we do not know the full list of players for the 2023 edition, there are some who are certain to be there and I am going to look at these now.
Michael van Gerwen
The Dutchman is one of the best darts players ever, having won 49 titles so far in his career. In 2023, h made it to the final of the UK Open and the PDC World Championship, and won the Premier League Darts. There is no way that he will not be playing at this competition in October.
Michael Smith
The Englishman went through a spell where he made it to nine finals and lost them all, but he broke his duck in 2022 when he won the Grand Slam of Darts. He then followed this up with a win in the PDC World Championship at the start of 2023. He will definitely be one of the contenders for the 2023 European Championship.
Luke Humphries
He has only made it to one televised final, which was the UK open in 2021, but apart from that he has had little to write home about. However, he is currently sitting in second place in the European Tour Order of Merit, so something will have to go seriously wrong for him not to qualify for the European Championship.
