If you are looking for some good entertainment value on Sunday the 13th of October, then tune into England against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This stadium has seen plenty of runs at the start of this tournament, so there should be some fireworks, especially from England's big hitters. Will England pick up a routine win, or will Afghanistan cause a bit of a shock? Well, below I will give you my betting tips as well as some top odds from popular betting sites.
💯 England v Afghanistan Betting Odds
Cricket betting has become really popular due to the fact that there are so many different markets to place bets on, and all of the top Irish bookmakers will offer a nice variety to ensure that there is plenty of entertainment on offer. I have three markets that I really like betting on, and the betting odds for them can be found below.
Match Winner Odds: England v Afghanistan

Afghanistan | 6.00 | 6.00 | 6.40 | 6.20 | 5.95 |
Top Batsman Odds: England v Afghanistan
For me, betting on sports is all about entertainment, and one of the most entertaining markets is the top batsman one, where you are tasked with picking the highest-scoring player from a team. I have picked three potential candidates from each team, and given you their current top batsman odds:
England:
Player | |||
---|---|---|---|
Joe Root | 3.80 | TBA | 3.80 |
Dawid Malan | 3.75 | TBA | 3.70 |
Jonny Bairstow | 4.00 | TBA | 4.10 |
Afghanistan:
Player | |||
---|---|---|---|
Rahmanullah Gurbaz | 4.00 | TBA | 3.90 |
Ibrahim Zadran | 3.80 | TBA | 3.75 |
Hashmatullah Shahidi | 6.00 | TBA | 6.00 |
Top Wicket Taker Odds: England v Afghanistan
Those who think that they know more about the bowling unit of a team can try to pick out the player that will pick up the most wickets for their team. As I did above, I have picked three players from each team that I believe have a shot of being of coming out on top, and have given you some current top wicket taker odds:
England:
Player | |||
---|---|---|---|
Reece Topley | 3.75 | TBA | 3.70 |
Mark Wood | 4.33 | TBA | 4.30 |
Adil Rashid | 4.00 | TBA | 4.00 |
Afghanistan:
Player | |||
---|---|---|---|
Rashid Khan | 2.80 | TBA | 2.80 |
Noor Ahmad | 4.33 | TBA | 4.30 |
Mujeeb Ur Rahman | 4.50 | TBA | 4.40 |
The above odds were correct when this prediction was written. For updates, head to the bookmakers' sites.
🔍 England v Afghanistan Match Winner Prediction
England are one of the favourites to win this competition, so it should come as no surprise they have extremely short odds in this match. They got off to a really poor start against New Zealand in their opening game, but they bounced back on Tuesday with a 137-run win over Bangladesh. If they put in the same sort of performance on Sunday, it is hard to see anything but an England win.
Afghanistan have improved considerably in recent years, so England will definitely not be taking them lightly. They will know that if they turn up just expecting a win to be handed to them, then they could end up with some egg on their face. Afghanistan have a weak middle order, which has cost them in their first two matches of the tournament, but they have a pretty decent bowling attack that could cause England some issues, especially if there is a bit of turn for Rashid Khan to work his magic.
Overall, though, I do not think that Afghanistan have the batting line-up to chase down a big total or put a big enough score on the board, so my money would be on England to win - although, in my opinion, the odds are too short to consider such a bet.
My England v Afghanistan Winner Prediction: England to Win
✔️ England v Afghanistan CWC Betting Tips
Let me now give you some betting tips for this England v Afghanistan match:
Match Winner: England to Win
These two countries have only met two times before in an ODI match, and those of an Afghanistan persuasion will not have fond memories of the last time they played England, which was at the 2019 Cricket World Cup. England batted first in that match and notched up a huge score of 397 thanks mostly to Eoin Morgan's majestic 148 from 71 balls. In reply, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid picked up three wickets each to help restrict Afghanistan to 247/8.
The Arun Jaitley stadium, where this match will be played on Sunday, is not the biggest, and plenty of runs have been scored there already in this tournament. The Afghan bowlers might already be having nightmares of being smashed for fours and sixes.
Afghanistan can give anyone a game on their day, due to their pretty decent bowling attack, but I feel that their batting is going to let them down once again. Thus, my money is on England to pick up another win and put their opening-day defeat to New Zealand firmly behind them.
If you want to bet on England to win, then TonyBet are currently offering odds of odds of 1.14
England's Top Batsman Winner: Joe Root to Win
Joe Root has played two very good knocks in England's first two matches of the tournament, top-scoring with a 77 against New Zealand and then hitting 82 against Bangladesh. He seems to be in pretty good form heading into this game against Afghanistan and is a quality player of spin, so I have a good feeling about him putting in another top performance on his way to being England's top batsman.
If you want to put money on Root to top score for England, then Dachbet are currently offering odds of 1.80.
Afghanistan's Top Batsman Winner: Rahmanullah Gurbaz to Win
For me, Rahmanullah Gurbaz is Afghanistan's best and most exciting batsman, which is why I am tempted to put my money on him to top score for his side against England. He got himself in during their last two matches but got out before he had the chance to go on and make a really decent score. As an opening batsman, he gets to bat when the fielding restrictions are in play, which can only help his cause when it comes to the top batsman market.
Those who want to put money on Gurbaz to top score for Afghanistan can find odds of 4.00 at Dachbet Sports.
England's Top Wicket Taker: Reece Topley to Win Top Wicket Taker
For England's match against Bangladesh, I predicted that Reece Topley would come into the playing XI and that he would go on to be England's top bowler - he took three wickets in the powerplay to all but any hope of a Bangladesh win. He has been unlucky with injuries in the past, but he looks back to his best. Batsmen seem to struggle more with him due to the height which he releases the ball at.
If you would like to bet on Topley to take the most wickets for England, then Dachbet Sports are currently offering odds of 3.75.
Afghanistan's Top Wicket Taker: Rashid Khan to Win Top Wicket Taker
When it comes to the top wicket taker for Afghanistan, I am always tempted to put my money on Rashid Khan as he is such a good bowler. It is probably not an exaggeration to say that he would be able to get into any other team at this tournament. He bowls with such precision and guile that even the best batsmen in the world struggle to pick him at times. I would not be surprised if he picked up two to three wickets against England while conceding few runs.
If you want to back Khan to take the most wickets against England, then TonyBet currently have *goto TonyBet-Sports [odds of 2.80] available.
