The Premier League has seen another managerial change following Manchester United’s dismissal of Erik Ten Hag. Steve Cooper is the latest managerial casualty following Leicester City’s 1-2 defeat versus Chelsea.

Leicester currently sit 16th in the Premier League just one point above the relegation zone. Steve Cooper was a slightly unpopular choice as manager amongst Leicester fans due to the fact he previously managed Nottingham Forest, one of the club's rivals.

Leicester have just 2 wins in 12 league games this season, so the writing was on the wall for Steve Cooper. They have lost 6 games which is 50% of their matches, which is a form that leads to relegation.

There will be many candidates for the Leicester job so let’s take a look at the main ones.

Graham Potter

Graham Potter is the current favourite for the Leicester job, and he was the fans' favourite when he was linked with the job in the summer. Potter has been out of work since getting sacked from Chelsea in April 2023.

He had an excellent spell at Brighton turning them from a relegation-threatened side into a side that fights for Europe, something Leicester fans would be hopeful he could do for them. Potter seems like the most logical choice, he is still a young manager and will be hungry to prove he is still a very good manager, following a poor spell as Chelsea’s manager.

He took that job slightly too soon into his managerial career so a step back to a club like Leicester could be exactly what he needs _ that .

David Moyes

Maybe to the surprise of many David Moyes is the second favourite to take over the vacant manager position at Leicester City. Moyes left West Ham at the end of last season, ending a successful spell in charge that saw him guide West Ham United to the UEFA Conference League title in 2023, defeating Fiorentina 2-1 in the final.

Moyes is now 61 years of age so he may not want to commit to another Premier League managerial job. He could be a short-term choice for Leicester to help keep them up and maybe move on at the end of the season. It would be hard to see Moyes as being a long-term choice for Leicester City to fill their vacant manager position.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy

The current third favourite to take over the Leicester City managerial role is former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Van Nistelrooy recently was interim manager of his former team Manchester United, remaining unbeaten in his interim spell, including two victories over Leicester City, one in the Carabao Cup and one in the Premier League.

Van Nistelrooy had previously been manager of PSV before taking up the assistant manager role under Erik Ten Hag before his sacking. Van Nistelrooy was manager of PSV from 2022 to 2023, winning the 2022 Johan Cruyff Shield and the 2022-2023 KNVB Cup. He resigned with one match before the end of the 22/23 Eredivisie season citing a lack of support.

"He is a somewhat inexperienced manager with only one previous senior job but at 48 years of age, he could be seen as a long-term solution for Leicester."

Carlos Corberan

Current West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is also being linked with the Leicester City job. He has been the manager of WBA since 2022 and is a young and hungry manager whose West Brom side are known for direct and fluid football.

Corberan signed a contract extension until 2027 back in February 2023 amid links to the vacant job at Leeds. Corberan has experience managing in the championship so could be a good choice to bring in if Leicester do get relegated, he would have the experience to help them get a safe return to the top flight.

Leicester are struggling in the Premier League and need to get this managerial decision correct in the hope that they can avoid relegation.
