💯 Summer Internationals Odds

Unlike the Rugby World Cup and the Six Nations, you will not have the option of betting on the outright winner in the Summer Internationals. These games are not a competition, but a series of individual test matches or series played off by nations from the Northern Hemisphere against teams from the Southern Hemisphere. The matches will generally take place in the home grounds of the competing Southern Hemisphere nations.

There are still plenty of Rugby Union betting options for punters despite not having an outright winner to bet on, and you can find some of the most popular rugby betting markets by looking at some of our Summer Internationals predictions. For a full list of the 2024 Summer Internationals schedule, check out the "When are the Summer Internationals 2024 Taking Place" section of this guide below.

✔️ Summer Internationals Betting Tips for 2024

The Summer International betting markets offer punters far more than just the match-winner betting market. There are a range of betting options open to the Summer Internationals, and below, I will take you through some of the most popular.

1️⃣ 1x2 Betting

As I have already mentioned, there is no outright winner of the whole Summer Internationals as it is not a competition, but there will likely be winners of each match. There is a possibility of draws in the games, but draws are something of a rarity in top-level rugby. With this bet type, you are simply betting on the outcome of the game. You are betting on either the home side winning, the away side winning, or that the game ends in a draw.

Top Tip 1: Do your research: I know it will be extremely tempting to just back the favourite in these games, but I would advise caution against doing this too quickly. Some of the bigger nations sometimes like to experiment with their sides in these summer games and rest some players, so I would recommend trying to get as much team news about the two competing teams before placing your bet.

2️⃣ Handicap Betting

If there is a gulf in class between two competing teams, it won’t make much sense for you to bet on a match-winner in that game. The odds on the favoured team will probably be too short, while if the gulf is as big as it potentially is on the betting, then backing the outsider might be just throwing your money away needlessly. In this type of scenario, handicap betting might be the way to go. Handicap betting allows you to give a team an advantage or a disadvantage depending on who you are betting on.

Top Tip 2: If you are considering doing a handicap bet, it will be important to have an understanding or an idea of how you think the match will go. If you think a team’s attack will have a field day against their opponent’s defence, while their defence will hold firm against the opponent’s struggling attack, you could attempt to predict the final score, and then use that as a guide when it comes to what handicap bet you choose.

3️⃣ Winning Margin

Quite like the handicap betting market mentioned above, the winning margin market requires some accurate and precise predictions to gain any kind of return from your bet. Your chosen bookie will offer a host of options to be the winning score bracket, such as 1-5 points, 6-10 points, etc, and you will have to pick which bracket your predicted winning margin falls into.

For example, if you pick South Africa to beat Ireland by between 6-10 points, and they go on to win by nine points, you will have won your bet.

Top Tip 3: Use the winning margin betting market in the right circumstances: The best situation to use the winning margin betting market is when the match is between two teams that are competitive, and the final score is expected to be very close.

4️⃣ Both Halves

With this bet type, you are betting on the outcome of the first half and the outcome at the end of the game. To win the bet, you must get each outcome right. The odds for this bet type are generally bigger than a match-winner bet, as you are predicting two outcomes for the same game. There are generally nine available bets for this kind of market:

  • 1/1
  • 1/X
  • 1/2
  • X/1
  • X/X
  • X/2
  • 2/1
  • 2/X
  • 2/2

Top Tip 4: Understand squad depth: Betting on the both halves market requires you to know just how strong the competing teams are. How strong are their benches and how well they use their squad depth will have an impact on who emerges victorious. Teams with plenty of depth in their squads will probably dominate both halves, especially against inferior opposition. Therefore, it is useful to look to back a team in both halves, especially in matches such as Scotland v U.S.A. or South Africa v Portugal.

5️⃣ Odd/Even Points

In this bet type, you are betting on whether you think the final score in the match will add up to be an even number or an odd number. There is not much thought involved in this bet and you don’t even need to have a preferred team; just cheering on both teams to score is what you need to win your bet.

Top Tip 5: Be sensible with a 50/50 bet: I would always caution against staking a large amount on a bet such as an odd/even points bet. The odds of losing are just too great to risk a large sum of money, so I would advise betting with a smaller amount. If you win, you will have won a smaller amount, but it will have been an extra bit of entertainment during the match, and if you lose, the stake won’t be that much, so you hopefully won’t feel so disheartened.

6️⃣ Accumulator Betting

An accumulator bet is a good way to have a bet if you fancy placing multiple bets on different matches during the Summer Internationals or on different markets in a solitary match. An Accumulator means you can do this without spending large sums of money betting on each match. There might be some limits to the number of markets available to you with an accumulator but don’t worry, there should be enough markets for you to choose from.

Top Tip 6: Don’t waste your accumulator: With an accumulator bet, you need all your selections to win for your bet to be successful. With that in mind, it is important not to be foolish or greedy with how many selections you add to it. Don’t add a ridiculous number of selections to your bet just because the pay-out might be extremely high. Be smart with your selections, because you will need all your choices to win for your bet to be successful.
